I am thinking about getting a chromebook. All i plan to use it for is basic internet use like TD and paying bills.

Anyone have experience with the chromebook?

I already use google drive, google play music, google docs and google calendar every day

Wife and I recently got chromebooks. They do 95% of what I used to use a pc for. Online shopping, TD, Youtube, paying bills, etc. We both couldn't be happier. It's great for surfing the web since it is virtually virus-proof. Best $150 I've spent in a while.

yea, chromebooks are perfect for those needs.

there are shitty ones, however, so make sure you get one above walmart standards.

i have this one LINK and i much prefer it browsing over my macbook air fwiw; awesome speakers and 1080p screen make it an enjoyable experience

Chromebooks are between a tablet and traditional laptop in terms of functionality but are priced less than both.

I've had an 11" Samsung for 2 years and have really enjoyed it - streams well, good battery life, many connectivity options with the HDMI and USB ports. If it died today I would replace it with a 13" Toshiba. ChromeOS is still 32-bit.

I picked up a chromebook for $120 last week, was a great deal so I figured I'd give it a shot and I've been hugely impressed... I've been using it much more than my laptop now. I regret not getting one sooner now Other than gaming, it will do just about everything you need

I'm always amazed Chromebooks aren't more popular. I'd guess 60-70% of people with a laptop could do 90%+ of what they do on their laptop with a Chromebook.

I love mine.

When I saw you couldn't even run Microsoft Office on them I was out.

Are they pretty fast?

I may get one from my wife, she cracked her iPad again and now the button is hit or miss.

She basically just uses it to look at pictures on istagram and buy baby clothes on facebook

depends on the quality/processor you get; the one i linked above is extremely fast.

with that said, i also bought a poverty one from walmart, which was annoyingly slow, that i ended up selling on craigslist.

but generally speaking they are zippy machines.

I have the "full HD" version of the Toshiba Chromebook 2 and couldn't be happier with it. Much better browsing experience than any tablet I have used.
I was down to this and a $800-900 Surface Pro. So so glad I went with the Chromebook.

Can you hook an external cd drive to a chromebook via USB? Or can chromebook not install the drivers?

Chromebooks typically have 1 each USB 2 and 3 ports. I've connected external hard drives, thumb drives, and digital cameras to mine. The Chromebook has been able to display the files and depending on the file type there may be an app available to execute them. If you just want to use the Chromebook to move files from the external device to a Cloud it has no issue and is pretty darn quick.

Bought a chromebook yesterday wanting it mainly to take offshore with me to use for watching movies off of my external hd. It had trouble playing some of the movie files, even after trying a couple other media players that i downloaded. I returned it to best buy today. Would have been nice to carry that with me instead of my heavy arse 15" laptop
