We need one for the house. Had an HP one years ago but it didn't last as long as it should. Have a Black/White Brother laser printer and it is great.

Any thoughts on color printers?

I just bought a samsung Color laser C1810W.....it has great print quality and is fast. But you will always get superior color prints from an inkjet....although for a more expensive per print price.

Ive probably had a model or two of all the popular brands over the years. Over the last 10 years Ive sworn by Brother. Cheap and effective. After 3-4 years of good use I just throw em away and get a new one. I have 6 of them in my office for the workstations.

The last time however I was in the market, Epson ( who I used to hate ) had a decently good sale on WF-3540. Ive now bought two of them.

I have a pair of Canon printers. I have a Canon 4800 laser printer for printing black and white and then a Canon 7520 for printing color/photos. Both are fully wireless, fast with excellent quality. The laser printer is the best money I have spent on any computer accessory ever. 70 bucks for a toner that prints about 5k pages, great scanner and it is also a pretty quick copier all in my spare bedroom.

I have a CLP-600 that is now in storage - great (but not photo) quality color and decent color/bw speed - but the consumables just ate me alive. Printer was around $650 new (back in 2008) - and a full set of consumables was running me high of $300. If it was photo quality, it might still be in service.

I went Brother BW and couldn't be happier.

If I were buying a color laser today - I would be getting a Xerox ColorQube 8570dn or Brother HL8350CDW, based on online reviews (and the Xerox runs mid $500s and the Brother mid $300s).

Has Brother fixed their toner issues? I used to have a Brother laser, and everything about it was great but the low toner alarm would always go off early. I finally got tired of covering sensors, changing settings and resetting the counter wheel.

I have an Epson now, and I love it. Prints fast and the scan to dropbox is nice b/c my wife can actually scan documents to me now.

Had an Epson work force printer. Worst printer I ever owned. Leaked yellow ink all over my desk, carpet etc. Will never ever buy Epson again.

Another vote for canon printers. I have an MG6320 and the inks are a little pricey to start but it uses a separate black cartridge for text printing.

I have the Epson Expression 800...all in one (print, scan, fax). Small footprint and quite versatile. Printing costs, though, can be high if you do an excessive amount of printing. Otherwise, really nice print quality and serves my purposes really well.

The C1810 cost me $150. No, its not photo quality as lasers in that price range are not going to be. But it is damn good quality. As for consumables, at $150 I could just buy another printer in 2-3 years when I have to buy new toner.

I would go with HP, Dell, or Brother. I personally hate Canon.

I've bought several brother printers for work - their inkjets aren't any thing special but their lasers are great.

Best one we've found is the MFC-9330CDW

If you do a ton high quantity printing the HL-L9200CDWT is great

We have had our Epson for just a few months, but no issues.

Our Brother 3-1 got clogged with ink and stopped printing in black. I can hear the epson doing regular maintenance to keep the heads clean and unclogged.
