Please help a newb out.

I purchased a PoE camera and injector from Amazon. The camera does not power up when connected to the injector.

The injector is a 4 port unsolicited PoE switch

Instructions were typical Engrish but I have the camera up and running via the external power adapter. I'd just like to learn what I did wrong. (besides not having my wife/professional do it)

This is the only camera I have thus far but I am looking to add more soon.

External adapter outputs 10V 1A which is within the range of the injector.

Poe injector spec

Midspan Mode-B Unsolicited Power(4,5+/7,8-)

Camera spec

Note: Both Data and Power transmit from 1.2.3.6. Pin, does not support 4.5.7.8. Pin for power supply

The injector is not powering the correct lines in the cat5.

Wow, they teach this kind of stuff on blues clues. Why would you buy this?
You have Mode A POE (endspan) which is stupid because no one uses it.
Get normal equipment eg: Mode B (midspan).
802.3AF standards requires the endpoint to support Mode A or B.
I'm just busting you balls. This should have been super obvious on amazon to avoid confusion.

Is this a way to piece together a Poe camera system? I am intrigued as I want to start with a few cameras and add on as I go. What do I need to get started?

Cameras, a poe switch/router or standard switch/router with a poe injector, and a dvr/pvr/server.

Lesson learned. Next time I will be more careful and not assume all PoE is the same.

Didn't cost me any money but I did have to run a power supply to the camera from the attic.
