Anyone work for a company with a BYOD policy?

What has your experience been?

IT guys, what type of support do you offer employees in a BYOD environment? I really do not want to support an employee with a flip phone (sarcasm) on Cricket/NET-10 wireless.

Were there any waivers or policies you had to sign?

If the employer pays you a stipend does that give them the right to review your phone history and messages? What about installing an MDM on an employee's phone?

Places I've worked with BYOD have no support. But programmers usually don't really ever need device support.

BYOD policy

I'm not very tech savvy so first, I assume this is related to mobile devices only... With that said, I participate in one.

Our IT dept provides very minimal support. Basically, they will only provide support if/when you can't connect to company email.

My stipend is a fixed amount every 2 years for device and another fixed amount every month for the service. The device must be an approved smartphone (mostly iPhones, blackberrys and an approved android device list), and the monthly stipend is supposed to cover a reasonable data plan. We are strongly recommended to go with one of the 3 major carriers.

Yes, had to read an FAQ and sign an agreement saying a lot of stuff, including that they can change settings and "access" my phone remotely for tech support. Also, they can wipe/reset my phone for security purposes. Agreement says a lot more though about all the rules I am supposed to follow - mostly to do with access to our network and not allowing others to use my phone to access our network.

My agreement doesn't explicitly say they can review my history or messages, but I assume that they can if they really want. My guess is that they won't unless they really needed to.

No idea what this means.

Theoretically, the employee signs an AUP with all stipulations. MDM software is great for managing the devices, depending on how secure your data needs to be. I've done a lot of work on this in the past, feel free to email me with other questions you may have <<<@gmail.com.

We are going away from issuing blackberries to a BYOD plan using MobileIron for email access. I think a few of the guys here were issued iPhones(mainly the ones that are in sales and need a company cell phone), but the majority of the folks that have a smartphone can get access through MobileIron if they want it. I was going to get it on my current phone, but never did. I'll probably just wait 6 months and have it installed on my next iPhone.

We have company issued iPhone 5's on a company plan. The idea is to migrate to personal plans/stipends allowing the employees to use the company iPhones until they reach end of life and are replaced. They will then be returned to the company.

My concern with BYOD is that I'd rather not have an employee's personal texts/emails used against the company in litigious situations. I fear that by receiving a stipend, the employee might have to surrender their phone to the court for review. Web research seems to suggest my fears are valid.

We use MobileIron to install an "image" but the only security policy within that image is to enforce a lock screen. I am happy to know other companies enforce security on personal phones, that was a BIG concern. I've found that remote wiping is not 100% reliable on MobileIron. It is also difficult to reclaim volume licenses when a device is removed.

My company has this policy but it requires them having full access to the device via the MDM software (Airwatch in this instance).

What I did was bought a prepaid Android phone for $20 on sale, sacrificed it with all the MDM crap, and use it wifi only to tether to my personal device (Nexus 5). I don't need a work cell, but just want to be able to get remote email and calendar.

We just started it. The stipend goes to help with your bill. It does not let us view anything on your phone. We do put Airwatch mdm so that we can administer email.

As far as support of the phone, we help with email and that's about it. You break your phone, you go take care of it.
