Building A New House - Tech Omissions

Building a new house post flood. If you've done this recently, what tech item or capability did you forget/leave out that you regretted later? And many thanks!

Kind of linking to my thread that I started earlier, but hardwire ethernet in every place you think you might want to plug in something.

Add any power/ethernet wiring for cameras on the interior and exterior of the house. A/V wiring for outdoor entertainment. I did this in my house and recommend it to everyone: add blocking between studs (I used extra 2x10s) for any location you think you might mount a tv or hang something heavy on the wall. Prevents you from having to find a stud and allows you to mount/hang something in the center of the wall even though the stud may not be center.

I'm adding Hue lights right now, and it's pretty cool. You might consider that, or some wifi light switches.

I'm building now and put an outlet in the ceiling of the bonus room, in case I ever want to get a projector.

I added outlets in my soffits. Hopefully it will help with Christmas lights in the future. We prewired cable/internet wires. Put studs in walls before bricking for outdoor tv. wish I would have put outlets under cabinets vs on wall under them

If you have covered deck/porch...external ethernet & coax outlets are a good choice.

You can do this at any point, but most of our wall outlets have the two standard sockets and also two usb sockets in the middle. If you have to buy new wall sockets, you might as well buy these IMO.
Its really convenient.

One thing I did remember to do...ran a dedicated 220 outlet in the garage for a car charger (in the event that I decide to get an electric or plug-in hybrid sometime in the future). It cost practically nothing, and could make things much easier. Also ran a dedicated 110 outlet in the garage for a freezer.
I also specified LED bulbs in every fixture in the house...wasn't really a big deal, except for the exterior floods. LED's last so much longer and I didn't want to have to change a floodlight 30' off the ground when it eventually burned out.
Ran extra power outlet under the kitchen sink to install an insinkerator hot water dispenser.
Went with Rheem on-demand water heater in garage. We have run 3 showers, washing machine and dishwasher at the same time without running out of hot water.
ETA...also...consider using quad outlets instead of duplex in the Master Bedroom where your nightstands will go. Nice to have extra plugs for charging phones, lamps, radios.
I also installed an outlet approximately 5' above the floor in the entrance from my garage where I am installing a built-in hall tree. That way, the kids will have a shelf to charge their laptops for school each night and can grab them on the way out the door.

Put some outlets inside the pantry and even large cabinets. You can hide rechargeable items in there.
I have my Keurig out of sight inside a tall cabinet, which make the kitchen look less cluttered and frees counter space.

I'm probably building in about 1.5 yrs and will have some sort of conduit run in the walls for network cable, HDMI , etc. In case tech connections change in the future, I can switch more easily.

Cat 5/6 cable everywhere. Preferably with a central media closet.
Switched eave outlets
AP locations and POE or ceiling outlets
Smart switches where needed
Security cameras
Floor heating in bathrooms
Generator connection
What size and where do you live? I've been debating this option for my new house, but get anxiety thinking it may be undersized.

Pull Cat 6 throughout the house. I think there's actually a newer standard than 6 so ask around. I didn't wire coax or HDMI or even Ethernet outside. I use a TV that connects the Roku through the Internet indoors and an HDTV antenna connected to the TV.
I think planning an exterior location for a whole-home generator as well as a hook in for a backfed generator into the breaker box is a good idea.
Radiant heat has a poor track record of long term reliability. Repair and replacement of the tech or just the floors is incredibly expensive if something goes wrong or you want to update for any reason.
I'd go with USB GCFI and double your routers in the house. May want to look at Cat 6 in the bathroom and the kitchen just in case and perhaps even the garage.
Central vacuum isn't tech per se but it's nice. Smart locks and automated garage door opener would be nice, as well.
