Best point and shoot camera

Pretty sure my dslr camera is broken. Looking at getting a cheap point and shoot camera to use in the mean time and to have to throw in my purse when need be. I only take pictures of my kids but they are young and move a lot so I need something quick. I would just use my phone but every time my 2 year old sees it she wants it and there is no convincing her to take a pic first.
Any help is greatly appreciated

ETA: NVM about smartphone.
Canon Digital Elph or equivalent. I had great luck with mine - before smartphone cameras caught up to the better P&S.
I'm sold on Canon cameras, period. Obviously, if your DSLR is not a Canon, you might consider keeping the same brand because you will have a shallower learning curve.

How much are you willing to spend? I have this one and I love it. It's a mirrorless camera, so a little more expensive than a point and shoot.

So to clarify, you want a good point and shoot that is relatively inexpensive? Not the best p&s to a replace a DSLR?

Canon PowerShot S?????. Don't know what # they are on now. Got the S90 6+ years ago (when that was the highest #) and it's still awesome. I use it daily for clinical pics for my labs and they all say it's the best pics they receive.

The S90 line was the best P&S for a good while. I think it's likely been overtaken by the Sony RX series, but both are excellent pocketable options.

I said I wanted a point and shoot that would simply allow me to take good pictures of my always moving kids (2 and 5). I want inexpensive because I will more than likely be carrying it in my purse or diaper bag. And again have a 2 and 5 year old.
The main reason I liked my dslr is because it took many pics quickly.
I am looking fir something similar to that in a point and shoot if possible.
But thanks for your help.
