Looking at the Asus (RT-AC68U) to replace my linksys which crapped out after 4 good years.

Anyone have experience with asus routers or this one in particular? Looking to upgrade from the normal $90 router but not ridiculous like > $200

I have one. It's significantly more than I need (only have about 6-7 devices on the network at any given time in a ~1600 Sq ft. house) but handles it all beautifully.

Awesome... I have similar sq ft and roughly 7/8 devices. Thanks!

You don't have any drop issues do you?

Not at all. Placement is important, of course. If you're planning to hide it in a cabinet at the farthest end of the house, your experience will vary. Mine is in the living room, central hub of the house.

I'm running a Netgear WNR1000 after going through 2 Linsys routers. It's a cheap wireless/wired router with just 4 ethernet ports but it was easy to set up and works like a champ.

I have the Linksys wrt 1900 ac, seems to work well. i see a noticeable difference in the signal on the far end of the house with this one as compared with others i've had before.

same. Love it.

To the op, what ever you get, install the latest firmware for the router right away.

I have the RT-N66 also. Only one I'd consider replacing it with is the RT-AC68, but I don't have any AC devices that need it.

Same here. Only 1 of our 8 or so devices has AC band. I do use the 5Ghz band, though and get very good throughput.

As the previous poster explained, placement is just as important as router selection.

Smallnetbuilder has done a lot of testing on both throughput and range for many routers.
