Belkin Charging Cable Problems

I have an iphone 5 with a mophie case on it. I left the mophie charger in a hotel room and stopped by the apple store to get a compatible charger for the case, and the only one they had/recommended was the "Belkin Micro-USB Cable + Adapter".
When I plug this in with my phone locked , my phone becomes frozen. If my phone is unlocked my phone will start opening random screens and calling people on it's own without me touching anything.
Has anyone had any similar problems or have an explanation for this?
