Are the benefits of Amazon Prime (besides shipping) worth it?

I got prime to take advantage of the pricing of the fire tv on prime day. I also got an echo and a tap and have enjoyed using them. I planned on canceling prime when the first month was up, but I'm debating that now.

Besides the shipping benefit, what have you otherwise found that you like that justified the cost?

We have PlayStation vue and Netflix, so I'm not sure we get that much more from prime tv besides the Amazon originals.

Prime music is nice with its integration on the echo, but doesn't have a decent number of popular songs. The echo can access Iheartradio and tunein and I find that to be enough for my tastes.

Anyone with other input or benefits? Am I missing something about prime tv? Thanks.

I just love the shipping aspect of it. I order a ton of products off Amazon and love the reliability of 2 day shipping.

I also have Hulu, Netflix, HBO GO, Spotify, etc., so I can take or leave the Prime Video and music section. I did enjoy watching All or Nothing, but I'm mostly paying for the convenience of shipping.

Prime and Netflix basically have the same movies. I just use it for the shipping

They have a deal with HBO where you get a lot of HBO shows. No Game of Thrones, but most of the other shows/seasons that are 3 years old. Sopranos, The Wire, Veep, True Blood, Boardwalk Empire, Entourage, etc. They also have exclusive streaming access to the back seasons of some good shows you might have missed. The Americans, Vikings, Downton Abbey, Suits, Humans, etc.

If I had to choose between NetFlix and Prime just on their video streaming I'd choose NetFlix. NetFlix's originals and Interface are better, but the HBO shows Amazon has make the libraries pretty close IMO. However, if I was in a situation where I thought $8-$9 per month for a service that gave me free shipping and a comparable streaming library to NetFlix wasn't worth it, I would revaluate what I was buying from where because I'd clearly be doing it wrong. Between the actual cost savings and the time/gas savings of not having to run all over town shopping for something, Prime shipping should pay for itself.

Prime Music is also a useful service IF you don't have enough data to stream music from a free service like Spotify. The selection is limited, but there is still plenty to listen to if you don't need the absolute latest hits, and unlike most other free streaming music, you can download music to your phone to play on the go without commercials and without eating data.

Amazon music w/ Prime has gotten pretty good. They also have unlimited photo hosting but I use Google Photo.

Over the course of a calendar-year, I order enough products on Amazon that my shipping costs total, or exceed, $99 (cost for an annual Prime membership). Having free, reliable two-day shipping makes the membership fee worth it.

Every other feature/perk of Amazon Prime is just an added-benefit.

I never buy prime membership when it at its normal price.

Amazon Prime is a steal at $50. I think that was the only thing I purchased on Prime Day.

Was that this last prime day? I would have jumped on that but didn't see it. Maybe because I wasn't a prime member yet?

You could try abusing your old student email account to get Amazon Prime Student membership for 50$. Its the same as normal membership but you can't share stuff with other people.

I really like Prime Music, just for the fact that there are no commercials!! They have lots of music i love and don't own so it's a win for me.
Also watching several tv series exclusively on prime. I've got netflix as well.no cable/satellite. So it's nice to have another option.
Plus free shipping keeps me from having to go to the store for stuff i can get online same price or cheaper. Totally worth $99 a year

Do you have HBO/HBO Go or HBO Now?

While not a perfect substitute, there is a lot of HBO content on Amazon not available anywhere else. Until recently, I think most of it was free. Amazon is charging for stuff like GoT, but that's the only exception I can think of.

Also, there is the prime kindle lending library, which has value for readers. I know there are scads of benefits, but I'm an Amazon Prime member because of shipping - everything else is Lagniappe. My cord cutting strategy is focused on getting down to Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Now and, perhaps, PS Vue (or Sling) - with Kodi filling in the gaps.

At this point, I take the Amazon Prime cost out of the A/B analysis, because I'll keep that anyway. If that ultimately means I can go to Amazon Prime, some streaming package and Kodi for a gap filler, then I'll be there.

Baby steps.

Actually currently sharing Netflix with a cousin at zero cost to me.

I'm sure HBO sees that as a predictable, seasonal pattern.

I just went down my cable bill and realized I'm paying $19 for HBO. WTF? HBO Now is only $15 - so that's the next change I'm making (as well as returning a DVR).

buying stuff on amazon that you would otherwise buy in store could also save you ~10% now in LA (if you don't claim it on your taxes )

But of course, you remit that to the state on your tax return, right?

Got TP shipped to me via my Dash button earlier this week. Free shipping.

Got about 100 pound laser printer being shipped to me with Dash enabled later this week. Free shipping.

In between, I get a music streaming service and a VOD CDN for free.

Google Photo is also unlimited and free provided you don't upload a file over 18GB.

Of course, serious photographers always shooting massive RAW format files need something else but for everyone else Google does great IMHO.
