I have an Apple TV box. It usually works fine. I set my iPhone to work as an alternate remote for it. Also worked fine. Recently the original remote has fallen into a black hole and disappeared. Now all of a sudden my iPhone remote app isn't communicating with the Apple TV box. It won't even turn the device on. I have no idea what happened. And yes I know I can call the help line and/or buy a new remote.
Does anybody have any idea what I may be forgetting or doing wrong? Suggestions?

Unplug the appletv and replug it in... Sometimes if you have it set to auto update, the update will frick up and it needs a reboot to work again.

Thanks. Will try that. One question. Unplug from wall or just unplug power wire from box?

Are they both on the same wi-fi network? Especially if you have different setups for guest.

Hey everybody - I can't say how I did this but somehow I needed to log in (again) to iTunes and to my amazement, my iPhone opened the thing and it was working this afternoon.

I did unplug the unit for a spell.
I had to get onto iTunes on my computer instead of my phone.
It was a royal pain
And I believe Apple TV must be the red-headed stepchild of all things Apple because there is precious little found on their help sites or even on the iTunes account page.

Thanks to all for helpful suggestions.

I usually just unplug ours and plug it back in and it works almost every time.

Also, if you change the password to your WiFi it will also disable the apple TV until you connect with the new password.

we really enjoy apple tv - I just need to put a blinking light or a tracking device on that damn small remote.

Lol! I hated that remote - but I sure wish I knew where it went. A tracking device or some kind of beep thing would be a good add-to item for it.

Have you tried programming your cable or TV remote to control Apple tv? It's really easy

I use my Logitech Harmony remote to control my AppleTV. Works perfectly.
