The M6 loudspeaker pair is being phased out and I can get them at cost for $3,500. Anyone an audiophile who has dealt with these before? Normally go for 9k.

I worked in a shop that sold Meridian many years ago. Very high end digital speakers. They were a little sterile for my tastes.

In what way?

They were digital speakers. They sounded for lack of a better word crisp. It's been a while but I definitely preferred the Dynaudio speakers in the shop to the Meridians. Of course the Meridians were way beyond the range that I could imagine spending. I think the full digital theater was $65000.
Don't get me wrong. There was nothing at all wrong with them. I just preferred more traditional speakers. Have you listened to them.

Heard a different pair. My buddy has a home theater company and he had a pair in his showroom. Sounded phenomenal. He gets me anything he is a dealer for at cost so these were sort of a blue bird since they are going to be phased out so only $3500.
Would I normally be looking at these? No. But getting into really high end at a really good price is tempting.

I'd pass. That's a little too hokey.

I've never liked Meridian active loudspeakers. There are better things out there, even for $3500.

My buddy bought 3 pair. Went in yesterday for a demo. My God....
I could sit and listen to music I don't even care for and enjoy it. I am amazed by what they are able to do with their design. My wife was in the room as well and she was saying "buy those!" I figured she would be the one saying "hell no". She loved them. I am torn.

What does one do with three pairs of speakers?

He is a meridian dealer
The Meridian US HQ is here in Atlanta and they had 3 sets left so he grabbed them.
He also is a control 4 dealer and has an older control 4 hub that he would give me so that I can run the speakers and automate some things.

Nobody can tell you what speaker sounds best to you. Everyone likes different frequencies highlighted or muted more than others. If you like them, pony up.
Tell the wife you'll buy them for her if you can PIIHB

Makes little sense. The idea is for the speakers to be a medium to deliver the sound as it was originally produced and recorded. Not some hoked up version with bass boost or treble enhancement or whatever you'd like to call it.

Same as last time you asked
I have owned a lot of Meridian gear in the past and I loved it. Meridian is the Apple of the audio world. They suck you into their ecosystem and it's a pain getting out.
With that said, I have heard the M6 speakers and my impression was it was cool and did a nice job filling the room with very good sounding music. It is in no way shape or form an audiophile speaker. There is no way in hell I would pay 3500 for these. You can get some really top notch stereo speakers for that much and have much more flexibility on amplification and source choice. There is a reason Meridian is not selling them in the US or Canada anymore.
