I'm looking to buy a projector that is somewhat portable. I would plan on using is outside some, but only in a covered screened porch area so equivalent to a semi bright room. And would like to hook up mostly to and Xbox one or cable box.
Here are two models I have been looking at
.
Epson Home Cinema 2040 1080p 3D 3LCD Home Theater Projector

Optoma HD26 1080p 3D DLP Home Theater Projector

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or alternativesomething for around that price point.
Also suggestions for a screen would be appreciated

I would go LCD over DLP at this point. I think DLP is all but done.

I have an Epson 3500 that I use for my theater room. If you want to use that one outside I would think it would have to be at night.

Mine is extraordinarily bright but doesn't work well if the room is bright.

DLP still handles motion much better.

I don't really want spend that much as this will be something I use every once in a while.

Why is the epson 3500 double the price?

BenQ W1070 or HT1075.
Awesome projectors. Consistently ranked as the best sub-$1000 Home Theater projector out there.

Do you know anything about the benq 2050. What's the difference between the one you linked?

I don't know a whole lot but I do know my buddy has a cheap older one probably payed less than 300 bucks for it.

We use it outside on our 20' x 40' screen we made and it works pretty damn good

I work on projectors every day:

Epson is the most trusted brand IMHO

I use a benq monitor at home and have been very impressed with them as well.

Those would be my recommendation.

BenQ 2050 is a minor upgrade to the 1070.
More contrast (15000:1 vs 10000:1), more lumens (2200 vs 2000 more brightness - might help with the outdoor setting),

Both the 1070 and the 2050 do not have MHL enabled HDMI port while 1075 does. This would let you hook up your Chromecast/Roku to your projector and stream on the 1075 directly. For this one reason, I'd go with the 1075 (2200 lumens and 10000:1 contrast ratio)

Unfortunately as a general rule: you have to double the lumens for it to be noticeable by the human eye... So this is a wash

I have a 2030 3D LCD and I love it. Extremely bright, can still see it with the blinds open. Have it at a 14' throw and its clear as can be. Had it for over a year, lamp went out a year after I got it, replaced the bulb and filter for $115.

I want one of these just because of the portability and ease of streaming from multiple formats...

Go and read here.

You need something that is bright so look for something in the 2800+ lumens range. The HD26 would be a good option.

my son had an old HP projector. Got tired of changing out bulbs every 10 months. Broke down and got him this.

Viewsonic

He projects onto a 110" screen and plays Xbox one and watches tv on it. We carry it outside from time to time and it's plenty bright.Amazing projector. Check the reviews.
