Is this an HD dish? Or the older 18" round

I am not too familiar with the SWM setup. Assuming you need a compatible receiver and the switch box.
I believe the SWM compatible dishes only have one hookup and you connect it to the switch before running it to your reciever. Obviously if it's a 3LNB or 5LNB dish locking in a signal is going to be difficult.

I know some of the newer recievers require SWM and no longer support the older dishes such as the 18" round that only got SD

I believe that is the old basic standard definition receiver. I would get an old 18" round dish setup. You won't need the power inserter and will be a lot easier to aim.
Obviously no HD, but as long as you get it level and have a compass should be fairly easy
