So I'm in the market for an Android tablet. I was looking at the nvidia shield k1 tablet but it's a year or so old now and appears it's not even getting restocked at some places. It's price point of 199$ seems good. Just looking mainly for something around the house to read books, watch sling, Netflix, mlb.tv etc.
Don't want the Apple ecosystem and the ms surface tablets are still expensive.

The samsung s3 tablet looked cool but is 600$. I could actually use the pen for work notes and such. Recommendations?

Unfortunately, everything cheap sucks in my experience. We tried a few different ones and finally settled on a Fire tablet (also sucks). My son's old Nexus 7 is better than anything out under $500.

Is a samsung s3 tablet worth it? I'd enjoy the note taking ability but 600$ is steep for a tablet.

I have a Lenovo tab 2 a10 that I read PDFs and watch YouTube videos on. Paid less than $200, had it for about 6 months, and while it may be slightly sluggish at times it has been well worth the money IMO. Decent screen, decent battery life and a micro SD card slot to boot.

Here's a link to Samsung's tablet page LINK Their tablet product line is confusing at first look.

I've got two Nexus 7's (2013) and a Fire 8". I like both but prefer the Nexus.

I've been using the Amazon Fire 8HD since Christmas and can't complain. For simple YouTube, TD browsing, email, regular internet surfing, I think it should work well for you. It lags a little bit, but restarting seems to fix the problem.

I've also added the Google Play Store, so it functions as an Android tablet instead of a strictly Amazon tablet.

Yea, how difficult was this task? It appears the NVidia K1 Tablet just got re-stocked at my local BestBuy and I may go pick that up. It's priced at 199$ and wondering if I should do that over the 90$ Amazon Fire 8?

I just got an Amazon tablet, and downloaded something on laptop that sideloaded the Play store for me.

I haven't figured out how to add apps from the Play store to my kid's profile on the tablet yet.

Get the Nvidia. Nice little tablet. Mother in law replaced her iPad with it and has been very happy. Also, Nvidia is very good about updates/support.

I bought a NeuTab on eBay 3 years ago for $49 and it still works like a champ. Does everything you say you want it to do. Never spend hundreds on a tablet, that is crazy.
