Amazon Fire Phone Unlocked GSM is the daily deal on Amazon today for about $150. Also comes with 1 free year of Prime, basically making phone $50.

I currently have an unlocked Google Nexus 5 that I used to love, but after the last update my phone has been having major issues so I'm looking to get a new one.

I am currently a T Mobile customer and love not having a contract so unlocked phones are a must for me. This also means I must buy phone outright so the new Galaxy is more than I'm willing to spend right now.

Is this Fire Phone a decent phone for $150? How does it compare to the Nexus 5?

I wonder if that one year of Prime applies to new members only.

I've never actually used the fire phone but my understanding is its a bit of a train wreck. That being said for $150 if you were planning on getting prime anyway makes it intriguing.

That's what I was afraid of. I know it's been a huge bomb sales wise so I wondered if it was the actual phone. Guess I'll pass on it.

Get the Moto G to tide you over, it will cost around $150 too. The Fire phone was a disaster and universally panned, not to mention many people think it is an Android phone, but it really is not. Also you don't have access to the Google Play Store.

I've owned it since December. Bought it for $189 unlocked, and am using it on AT&T.

Major update to Fire OS was in May, which brings the Android Kit Kat platform to the fire phone.

You can also sideload almst all of Google apps to the phone.

Also, Fire OS 5, which will include Android Lolipop will come soon.

Its not a bad phone at all. Don't let the reviews turn you off.

Its a bargain IMO.

Also, developers on XDA in the last few days have figured out how to install the CM rom on the phone, which is a major breakthrough for development considering the locked bootloader.

What if I'm already a Prime member?

You're still eligible. Prime members who purchase a Fire will receive an additional year of Prime when their existing membership is up for renewal. For example: if your next renewal date is June 1st 2015 and you purchase a Fire, we will give you an additional year of Prime at no charge, making your next paid renewal date June 1st 2016.

Removable battery and sd card slot are prerequisites for me. If you're not going to root it and flash CM11 then I wouldn't do it. I believe this phone is the inspiration for the Hooli Phone.

If you do pull the trigger, please come back and tell us how it all works out.

You can download all of the Google apps from the play store after you install the play store and Google services.
