I have the Asus N66 and it's awesome. It's highly rated on smallnetworkbuilder as well.

I have the same one, love it, but N is dated technology. Here's the same one in AC, refurbed for $10 cheaper:

I was thinking about this

Seagate Wireless Plus 1TB Portable Hard Drive with Built-in WiFi (STCK1000100)

this morning, before I even knew it was on sale. I decided that I don't really need one for another year or two and by then they might have a very affordable SSD version with 3x the battery life of the current ones. If it were 50% off though I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

ETA: I was hoping a 4 TB WD MyBook was on sale. Oh well.

How many devices do you own that actually have AC radios? We only have one of about ten devices in our home that has AC capability and that's my wife's Iphone 6. If you want to future-proof and spend the extra money (new vs new), go ahead. However, I figure in about two years when a majority of my devices have AC bands, there will be significant improvements in router technology and hardware.

Furthermore, the bandwidth of an N router is likely not the limiting factor of your network speed. It is much more probable that your ISP speed limitation is the limiting factor and a faster router will not change that.

For basic internet usages, N is more than you need really. I would take a very highly rated quality N router over a middle the road AC router any day.

Especially since in 2 years when I actually can use the AC router with AC capable devices, they will be cheaper + better tech out there than a Newegg 3* refurb
