Looking to upgrade my old panasonic TV and interested in getting a 4K. Been looking at the Samsung SUHD sets and the Sony Ultra 4k's. Anyone have any experience with either? Thx

And cost significantly more.
I have the Vizio M70 and love it.

I looked at the Vizio, but thought the picture quality was not as good as Sony or Samsung.

4K
Why?
What content is there that makes this worth it? Why people spend more money on a 4k or curved TV or any of this shite blows my mind.
Get a normal Samsung LED or whatever floats your boat. Wait until there is actually 4K content before purchasing one.

You can't go wrong with either of those, much better than the Vizio junk people love on this board. And don't listen to the no 4K content crowd. More and more content is becoming available. I would personally buy a Sony as I think they are best on the market. Plus they make the cameras used to film movies and sporting events. They are the leaders in 4K. I deal with both brands on a daily basis.

you obviously have no clue what you are talking about. i'm pretty sure the "we make the cameras" was a sony commercial a few years ago
i can sum up all the advice in this thread so far: "spend more money, get better tv"

You're right, I have no clue what I'm talking about. I'm sure Sony pictures uses Vizio cameras at their film studios. Sony really didn't film the World Cup with their own 4K cameras. They really arent in the process of upgrading the NFL with all new 4K cameras.
For the record I never saw those commercials, my info comes strait from Sony of North America.

Solid advice.

quote:That is a retarded commentary. Why? Well if for nothing else, almost all the quality phones coming out can shoot video in Ultra HD. We shoot all the kid's activities in 4K and watch them in 4K on the 4K TV. So there is reason #1.

GoPro in 4K! Awesome! (see reason #1 and duplicate it) The GoPro cxhannel on YouTube has lots of great 4K videos, as YouTube is filled with great 4K videos.
Curved, however, is marketing BS, I will agree.

Comparing curved to 4k is asinine.
4k is a standard of the future whereas curved is purely cosmetic.
Netflix already has 4k content. They will continue to add 4k content.
Why buy a tv today that will be obsolete is a few years or unable to play the best quality?
Having said that, buying 4k today means you will be paying more than you would in a few more years.

So you plan on paying more money to watch a kids birthday in 4k? lol
And you'll pay more to watch Youtube?
It's your money, do what you want but I just think it's pointless for the time being.

Good point, dont buy a 4K now and save a couple hundred bucks. Then 12 months from now you can go buy another TV, this time 4K.

As for brands, our experience is that Sony is the best for picture quality / length of service, although you will pay for that privilege.
At this year's NAB, the exhibitors who needed to display their video to the knowledgeable masses were using Samsung.
Personally, I am partial to LG. I shy away from Vizio, as their power supplies never seem to hold up more than 2 years..
Your TV set is probably a five year investment. Although the off-air broadcasters will likely not be 4K in that time frame, the streaming services - and the home camera industry - will rapidly fill the space.
Personal opinion - If you need a new TV get the 4K. Get one with as large a 'refresh rate' (240 min) as you can afford. And make it a Smart-type device. The content stampede is close behind.

no, you don't know what you are talking about because you take sony's marketing garbage about "we make the cameras" (i don't care where you get the info from. it's still sony's marketing line) and equate that to making the best 4k tv's. sony doesn't even make most of the components for its tv's (source: LINK), same as many other big tv brands. finally, wtf does making a camera have to do with making a display? canon and nikon make great cameras, but they aren't in the display business. if sony's pitch that making the cameras made them a superior tv brand were actually true, then surely the other camera manufacturers would be in on the tv game as well, right?
i'm not saying sony doesn't make a good tv. i don't have personal experience with them, but i can say that i have yet to read a broad review where sony was a clear favorite. one example is this 2015 cnet review, where an LG has the best picture quality LINK. however, the vizio gets the nod in terms of price/performance. the sony is on there, but not as the favorite.
as for the 4k/non 4k argument, op has to decide if it is worth it considering where he sources his media. if it's primarily broadcast tv, 4k may not be worth it right now because it will likely be a few years before it becomes standard. there currently isn't even 1080p broadcast tv. if you spend most of your time watching netflix and youtube on your tv, it may be worth while for you to go ahead and get 4k.

I never said the reason they make the best TVs is because they make the camera. They are the leaders in 4K technology though. IMO they make the best panels because I see it everyday out in the wild. I deal with custom integrators on a daily basis with many different brands. Sony is the best all around product hands down.
