Winner of the Europa League...

The winner is granted an automatic berth into the CL right?
If so, is it possible that we could see the exact same scenario play out with Chelsea finishing behind spurs in the EPL, but taking their CL spot due to them winning the Europa?

I don't think the winner gets an automatic berth. I wish they would though it would make the tournament more meaningful

Wrong. The winner just plays in the Super Cup against the Champions League winner.
I can guarantee that Brad Friedel would not be starting for Spurs with a CL bid at stake.

I wish then maybe all the time/energy we have spent in that competition wouldn't have been so pointless and maddening.

That's what some ppl want bc they say the Europa league has no allure (I think the NIT comparison is spot on) but I wish they would change it... Teams would be much more competitive

Platini suggested a bigger Champions League by absorbing Europa for a super tournament a year or two ago...but that did not come to pass.

Thank god it didn't. But it would have been fun to see how differently some top league teams would have played in the Europa league if a UCL spot was on the line.
