Why can't West Ham and Newcastle spend money like the big dogs? They both get large crowds and revenue.

If the Marlins can spend a 100 million in a season, why Can't Aston Villa?

And I know Man U and Liverpool have a huge world wide fanbase, but I can't understand why teams with great attendance can't translate that too mega spending.

No team wants to spend money. City don't want to spend the money they do every year, but since they suck in the UCL they'll keep doing it .

It also has me curious as to what some of these fans think. Knowing their team will never win a title must be depressing. My team is small market and we win a title every 10 years.

I've always wondered that myself. I've always enjoyed how loyal most English soccer fans seem.

Newcastle can spend a LOT more than they actually do. The issue is ownership.

Probably sucks knowing that they could invest into a star player or two but they just wont do it. I'm a Man United fan so we don't have that problem thank god

It does but the flip side is that it's still far better to be Newcastle than to be say Ipswich Town

I think that is the most fascinating thing in all of sports. It's mind blowing when I see the fan support for teams in Championship down to League 2.

bc its the owners

these are clubs not franchises.

They operate on their own and don't have a franchise model to fall back on. If lets say the Rams in the NFL go broke they will still be a team and operate. If West Ham does the same, they could go away for ever.

No draft, no salary cap and no playoffs is why there is no parity in European football. If you look at the Champions League, there is tremendous parity because a tournament structure is unpredictable plus there are many teams with huge payrolls so the gap between the top teams is much smaller.

Why do they operate at a loss if they don't spend money and get great attendance?
