Much like comparing Coutinho to Ozil, Silva benefits from playing with more overall class around him.

They're both fantastic players but feeding Aguero vs Oliver fricking Giroud is quite a bit different. Although Giroud is always good for a handful of decent goals a year.

I love James... It's hard to say, because I think they play the role different... he's much more of a goal scorer than Ozil..

I think Silva is right up there, too..

I think on his day Ozil is the best playmaker right now, but Ive just seen him be invisible too many times... I also hate him, so that may be swaying my opinion..

What about James? He had a stellar season. Don't think its fair to count him out.

He isn't as unselfish as Ozil. Real does some crazy shite in the transfer market. When CR7 and Benzema lamented Ozil going, that should say a lot. He put balls on a plate for them. I'm not complaining. Ozil is the reason Arsenal have finished where they have the last two seasons and why they will be there again.

13 goals, 13 assists.

He's just not in the EPL.

I wasn't saying he doesn't provide assists... he just is more of goal scorer... when Ozil was in that set up, he had like 20+assists.. it was ridiculous..

Who is he competing with?

Fabregas, Silva, James, De Bruyne, Eriksen, Koke, among a lot of others. I'd wager that he has the worst stats of all of those players despite similar chance creation numbers because Arsenal hate finishing.

True.

C-ron was pissed when they sold him. It was a hell of a cuex by Arsenal.

I love James. But if we are throwing out the players around a player, James has one of the two best players in the world and one of the top #9's as well.

Meh, I would love Lewandoski at Arsenal. He would wreck the EPL. Second best striker to Aguero at signing.

Really like Mesut, and was sad to see him go. He is intermittent, but I think he really busted his arse at RM, and there wasn´t an interest in attending to his wage demands.

yeah... I'd throw Isco in the mix.. my personal favorite is Javier Pastore, but his development kinda stalled out...

De Bruyne, Eriksen

I'd def take Coutinho over those two...

Koke

I think of him as more of a CM

I could see Coutinho over Eriksen for sure, but KDB? I think I'd take him over Coutinho any day of the week.

KDM was ridiculously productive last season. It's hard to overlook a 20 assist season.

Koke

He's been deployed a lot as a right sided player, but I think his long term future is at CM.

There are a lot of playmakers I'm forgetting. It's super hard to ignore Fabregas's offensive contribution, but he's been pretty bad since the new year. There's a tier of very good playmakers who obviously are dependent on players around them finishing. Should the fact that Costa and Aguero are better finishers than Giroud be held against Ozil?

granted, I don't watch him week in and week out, but I have never been overly impressed when Ive seen him... Don't get me wrong, I think he's a good player... Ive just watched every minute of Coutinho and think very highly of him (even though he frustrates sometimes)

While stats tell a large part of any story, I think it should be noted that Phil played on arguably the worst team out of that entire lineup. You can make an argument that Spurs were worse last year, but the surrounding cast for every one of those other players are leagues above what Phil was playing with.

Its a shame this devolved into Cou vs. Ozil, but can we all agree that the OP is objectively wrong on this? I think Phil is a bit overrated but saying he isn't good is completely ridiculous.

Get in the mix bro.

We'll let you use Mata a few seasons ago since LvG forgot to play him most of last season.
