Same here, but my 5 year old (at the time) was the one who spotted the "African badass with a jerri curl" and made fans of both of us. When he could name half the team and tell me who had the ball, I figured I better start paying attention.
Now he sports his mango nike mercurials and Drogba jersey at his soccer practice.

eta: my father has always pushed Palermo (because of our roots) but I don't think my son would wear the home jersey.
