It's amazing how the standard has been lowered in just four years. Bradley and Klinsmann both won a Gold Cup and advanced the U.S. to the second round of the World Cup. But Klinsmann has overseen a tactical regression culminated by a disappointing fourth-place finish in a tournament the Americans were heavily favored to win. He has yet to deliver the stylish soccer he promised. Now his results are lacking, too.

Bob needs to stay in Europe.

We shouldn't bring back Bob.

That, of course, does not mean that we shouldn't sack Jurgy.

I would rather have Bruce back.

I agree 100%. I just think you can tell we've reached a tipping point when people want Bob back.

Author Kristian Dyer's previous two articles to this one:

quote:

Chad Johnson's daughter is a young track phenom

I would put this one in the category of those.

I really don't see how sacking Jurgen would be productive.

If you're going to commit to as bold a plan as they've sold to us, commit to it. Give him two cycles. If there's not progress, then move on.

Sacking an international manager after one bad tournament is such an overreaction. Maybe this bad result will breed positive changes.

Point is, firing him would be completely counter intuitive to the entire reasoning for bringing him in. And I've never been a JK fan and always was a bigger BB fan than most.

An international manager should not get two cycles.

Can we ask Jurgen to do the same?

That first press conference, we were promised the end of bunker-and-counter i.e. Bob-ball. 4 years later, we still play like that and are worse at it. What's worse, this team has no continuity whatsoever.

If Klinsmann goes, hand Klopp a blank check.

I agree with all of this. He's doing a pretty good job with the youth system. Let's get through this cycle and see where we are.

Absolutely we can ask him to do that. His flaw right now is he is stuck between being pragmatic and progressive. He has to pick one. Foundering between the two results in what we just saw. (His second biggest flaw is being a dick, or having the appearance of a dick).

Now, maybe it will pay off. Maybe Alvarado and Brooks become a dominant pairing. Maybe Timmy Chandler is the next Jermaine Jones, from marginalized and disinterested to key cog. Maybe Bradley suddenly becomes a No. 10.

I wouldn't bet on it though.

If we could have avoided Claudio Reyna's leg falling off and Gooch committing a silly penalty (or perhaps it wasn't) in the same game, we would probably look back pretty differently at 2006.
