it doesn't excuse the ref not issuing a red card to Johnston. It would be really lame to find excuses for the refs incompetence. U.S. dodged one big time and we should just count our blessings.

He's not wrong though. Too bad Jurgen thought Wondo made for a better veteran presence than LD.

There are many injustices in sports. Every time Landon whines like this, I care less that he was not sent. He's right, but there is nothing to do about it now. Let it go. Let it gooooo.

Lalas had a fantastic retort though. "Agreed. @J_Klinsmann should have taken @AbbyWambach." Landon replied with some weak crap about Lalas still rooting for Germany. Whoops...that went differently than planned. Abby would have finished Wondo's chance.

ETA: Damn you Waffle House for beating me to it.

Saw on the replay that the German player that Johnson fouled was wearing a necklace that Johnson's hand got caught in.
Her hand didn't get caught in the necklace.

Well, I would say it does. If you're brought down by a necklace that you're not supposed to be wearing then it's your fault, not a foul.

Disclaimer: Didn't go re-watch the replay, so I'm not saying the hand DID get caught, but it would matter if it did.

Ehhh. They were mugging Morgan all night - inside and outside the box. It cuts both ways.

I'm not saying it shouldn't have been a red card. I'm just saying the U.S. dominated that game and if they played it 9 more times Germany would have lost every single one of them. Germany put 1 shot on frame the entire night. The better team won. Period.

Love the enthusiasm and veteran presence of @AbbyWambach despite not playing much. That kind of leadership is priceless during a WC

He's 100% correct - but it's not a good look for him. He's taken a few shots at Jurgen lately.

I've actually been impressed with Abby. She's kept her mouth shut, accepted her role and done everything that's been asked of her. Maybe they all learned something from Hope Solo's behavior in the 2008 Olympics.

I feel like Landon would have done exactly what Abby has been doing.

The way Landycakes has been talking lately, you are so sure he would have kept his mouth shut in Brazil like Wambach is doing right now??? These comments just reaffirm Jurgy's exclusion of Donovan.

Did Germany not dodge two penalties toward the end of the first half?

And I don't think that's red on Johnston. She touched the ball, not the German chick, and there wasn't a clear goal scoring opportunity since Solo was right there.

He said all of the right things last year, all the way through his last bullshite appearance with the US and the end of the last MLS season.

He's fully retired from soccer and has no reason to filter his opinion now.

What??? What the hell are you talking about? Popp took the shot and the last defender was beaten. It doesn't matter where the goalie is.

How'd she take the shot if she was dragged down?

Didn't he some guilty feeling of schadenfreude about wishing the U.S. would lose? Yeah, that's leadership material.

Johnson pulled her down by grabbing her neck/collar. She had beaten Johnson and only had to get the ball past Solo. She could have either chipped it over Solo, or dribbles around her for an easy tap in. Easy red card imo.

She "pulled her down" (you can make a case for how strongly) by the shoulder - and the goalkeeper doesn't count when considering DOGSO. If the goalkeeper did count, the only DOGSO reds would be on goalkeepers.

Johnston was lucky to escape a red, IF you believe that she could pull down the stampeding forward with three fingers on the shoulder - which the referee did. If you call it a foul, then it's a PK and a red. The ref was shite last night, I'm not surprised she got it wrong.

Calling that a shot is laughable.

yea, And I don't agree with it being a clear opportunity. Deal with it.

Yeah, if you call a foul there, you have to pull out the red card.

You know a shot is not a consideration for DOGSO right? Face it, you don't know shite what DOGSO is.

I don't care about the shot. You're the one that brought it up.
