not sure why MLS doesn't take it more seriously considering a CL spot is on the line

Yes, MLS wants to pretend they exist in the same ecosystem as other American leagues and just be completely closed off.
It's a poor strategy on multiple levels.

I've said this about clubs in Europe.
Middling teams who have no shot at Europe, and put out scrubini team for cup matches. Then happily out of cup and finish in their usual 13th place. It's asinine and if iwas a fan, i'd be pissed. Since you have no chance to win anything in the league, u better go balls to the wall for the cups.

CL is completely irrelevant until the semifinal round. No one gives a frick about watching Vancouver beat up on a small island club from Jamaica.
Now that new tournament they are talking about which feature just Liga MX, and MLS... that is interesting.
