Will the individual FAs revolt against this?

Platini is probably Blatter's successor.

I'm not sure they got paid, this time. the article was a little confusing to me. it seems like they were voting on whether to play in the summer or in the winter. location didn't seem to be an option. if the question is between those two, move it to the winter because I don't want players to die.

I think that there's probably a concerted effort being planned behind the scenes to push for changing the location. you can't really come at Blatter piecemeal.

Domestically, networks here will be mad that it may affect NFL/NCAA football viewership...probably better for them if its later in January (fewer--though bigger--games)

With how far soccer has come in the last few years, it will be interesting to see how much interest may increase in another 9 years...

Fox has voiced their extreme displeasure at the idea. I think they would legitimately pull out or demand some payment if it is moved. Would be an ugly and messy legal battle.

I guess it will depend on what time the games will start if it has any effect on sports here.

Out of the EPL, La Liga and Bundesliga...if two of the three agree to not release players, this greed-driven farce will not happen.

The EPL holding out would have the biggest effect. All of the World Cup regulars usually have atleast one star player in that league. Just imagine if we couldn't use Jozy, Howard, or Guzan.

Don't see how that would work. Couldn't the players just tell their clubs to F off and go play for country?

I figure the leagues will give in and go on a month long winter break. There will be a fallout if guys end up getting an injury that puts them out for 5 months which means their club season is done.

We should all boycott it and go win the Homeless World cup with our star players of the day

Players have contracts that must be honored. FIFA created this mess with Qatar. Al Roker could have told them its muy caliente, tres chaud, sehr heis and just plain too damn hot in summer.

Why can't Qatar build stadiums with retractable roofs? That should've been a requirement but FIFA before giving them the games.

This is a shame. Only get the opportunity ever 4 years and the growth of the sport in the Untied States relies on this tournament.

Wont go over well in the middle of NFL playoffs, college bowl season and the NBA and the NHL in full swing.

Disappointing. Was hoping UEFA would be the one to put up a fight. With them bowing down it looks as if it will happen.

Unfortunately, it looks like there's a better chance that Russia will lose the Cup than Qatar losing it.

Another thing that also screws things up, the Winter Olympics which could really screw up things for tv networks if they have deals to carry both games.
