A "League of Nations" that would be a third major tournament for European countries after the World Cup and European Championship is expected to be given the go-ahead by Uefa on Thursday.

Games would be played in odd-numbered years on dates reserved for friendlies, starting after the 2018 World Cup.

No exact details have been confirmed, but there would be up to four divisions with promotion and relegation, plus a 'final four' competition in the summer.

Are you cereal? Champions league is for clubs. International play between CLUBS, not countries.

League of Nations is International play between Countries.

Hahaha misread it until I clicked the link. I meant clubs from different countries is already international, didn't see they meant countries in the league style.

When I first read the headline I was afraid this was a club competition, but the idea of an international league is interesting. If it gives us more competitive international matches I suppose I'm for it.

I like the promotion/relegation aspect to it.

But at what point do they start getting burnt out with WC quals, Euro quals and now this... or do we start to see more B teamers in the League of Nations?

I would have to think so. No way European teams play a major international tournament every year.

Wilson was a royal prick. I'd be on the other side of any issue he was for just on principle.

Next we'll have the CONCAF "United Nations" Tourney.

So UEFA doesn't consider the Confederations Cup a big tournament? I would rank it right behind the World Cup, now if we can get rid of the Oceania automatic bid. As for the US I hope that the Copa America + Gold Cup tournament takes off. Since we don't take part in Copa America because of the Gold Cup and the MLS summer season we need to play in tournaments against top level talent. I say play it every 4 years and switch the sites out with North and South America.

No, it´s considered a ´friendly´ with much hullabaloo.

I´d rank it fourth, behind the European Cup and Copa de América.

Maybe North Korea could host.

Same. It could really be beneficial for fans in this country to have another major international "A-team" tournament with the USMNT. Gold Cup is fun but doesn't capture that wide of an audience, which I feel the CA would be able to do with ease.
