Really don't know what's going to happen as it seems Totti really wants to play another season and that Spalletti doesn't seem interested in carrying him only as an occasional spot sub for all the media hoopla that would cause.

If Totti wanted to play a sea on the US or Australia, I do think he's certainly earned the right. To me, it doesn't really diminsh his loyalty to Roma as that's defined by turning down three times the money and fame of Real Madrid et el over and over in his prime.

By the way, would the press from any other country introduce an article with the phrase "Leicester City target, Francesco Totti"?

haha yeah that was a weird way to describe him

what I don't get is why spaghetti wouldn't give him another year with a similar role. hes scored 2 in the last 2 right, both won points, and had a few assist recently as well.

The English football world is centered on the English football world like no other.

It's a good question. It's clear that Totti
isn't going to be pressing the way Spalletti wants even during brief stretches. However, he's still a better passer and finisher than 95% of all players everywhere and that can certainly be useful chasing a goal against packed defenses.

If I had to guess it's that Spalletti thinks 1) Totti won't really be happy on the bench so much and it will be a media soap opera 2) the team as a whole needs to break with Totti psychologically.

Spalletti probably has a point from the standpoint of winning the most matches, which is his job.

However, AS Roma has really never been mainly about winning matches and trophies.

How could he be anymore of a legend? . . . at the apex of all the rumoring and bickering, Totti subs in with 4 minutes left and promptly scores two goals in three minutes to get the 3-2 victory and with it seal Roma's CL berth.

Spalletti's alleged idea that the team would fare better to go forward with Pjanic, Radja etc being the leaders and not go through a year long media circus may well be correct.

However, even if he is right, I've been an AS Roma fan for over 20 years of provincial dysfunctionality.

It's not even a decision as to whether I'd take one more to see a few more moments of La Magica like today.

Really, to my mind, Totti's goal in the last match at Atalanta was quite a poetic distillation of so many of the diverging trajectories at play:

--- Totti subs on and does what Dzeko et al have recently missed so many opportunities to do: finish in an absolutely crucial moment

--- Totti's celebration where he and the complete team seem to completely lose themselves, all surging with the same contrasting emotions as we were feeling as fans: reveling in what could possibly be the last ever Totti goal celebration all while the clock ticks down on yet another important late season result being blown.

--- Spalletti on the sideline motioning with a "what the frick" expression at his team getting so lost celebrating with the chance of winning a crucial match now right there for the taking but the clock ticking down to stoppage time.

Totti, his team, the fans soaring on raw emotion of historical awe amid another segment in Roma's seemingly tragic flaw, to forever just miss. . .
This, in full clash with the frustration of pulling this provincial club kicking and screaming into a colder, more pragmatic world of modern football all laid bare in an instant.

I've been heavily into following soccer for 3-4 years now and it took me about a month into the first transfer window to see this clear as day. The myopia is astounding.

Also the post above mine was outstanding man.

Every Bayern player is "Manchester City target Player Name" even if the guy recently signed an extension.

The hilarious part is that, other than Alaba for a brief spell, most MC forums have said the same shite.

Not many city fans think we're actually in it for any BM player. The only two I've seen are Alaba and Thiago. Alaba was for a week or two after Pep was announced and was driven by the fact that we are in serious need of a new LB. Thiago was a name kicked around because 1) at the time Pep was a rumor, 2) he was with Pep at Barca B, Barcelona, and BM, and 3) he also fits a need for the club.
