From Grant Wahl's twitter.

ETA:Unreal how they punish his club worse than his Country.

So his third offense penalty is lesser than his 2nd offense.

I get that this puts him out for the World Cup so it is conceivably more harsh, but still...

Well, book Colombia's ticket to the quarters. Uruguay is done.

He can't play a match for 4 months. For anyone.

I think 15 games plus the 4 months would have been a little more sensible.

ETA: So then what's the deal with the 9 games? Is that International only?

I'm not sure it's really about punishing his club.. It's about punishing the dude period.. I expected a lot longer.. considering it's multiple acts over time.

So what's the point of a nine game ban if he's banned for four months?

Does the nine games apply to playing for Uruguay?

How long before he has to submit appeal? How long before a ruling on it?

If true, he could possibly play 2 more games?

Well his country is pretty much done and Liverpool's season now takes a major hit.

I wonder how much they support him now b/c he basically cost them winning the league and going far in Europe.

I obviously think thats excessive and punishes LFC more than Uruguay... but oh well... maybe it can be appealed and lessened, but I doubt it...

Atleast it happened in June.. so October 25th will be the earliest he'll be back.. We'll just need to hold the line, we did it last year, I believe in the guys to do it again this year

Don't have all the info but Smyth said the way he read the rules he would likely be able to play against Colombia if he appeals. No idea if that's true but that is what the message was
