Goals scored in 2010 WC:

Donovan - 3
Dempsey - 1
Bradley - 1

Goals scored in 2006 WC:

Dempsey - 1

Goals scored in 2002 WC:

Donovan - 2
McBride - 2
Mathis - 1
O'brien- 1

US all time leading WC goal scorers:

Donovan - 5
Patenaude - 4 (1930)
Mcbride - 3
Dempsey - 2

You have to go all the way back to 2002 to find a WC goal scored by a US striker. Then you leave the most productive goal scorer in US WC history at the airport.

After a prolific qualifying run, Jozy managed just one goal in the EPL this season for Sunderland... But that's ok because we brought Wondo, Bacon, and the new kid?

Color me un-American, but we could be looking at a repeat of 2006. As I see it, the success of this team in this tournament rests squarely on Jozy's ability to find the back of the net. Is he up to the task?

Am I the only one that thinks that it doesn't matter who made the roster? Having Germany and Portugal in the same group would be to steep of a hill for 98% of the world.

I would guess that if we score, it will be Dempsey, Jozy, and MB.
Wouldn't surprise me if Wondo scored a couple, though.

Funny that we are totally writing a Green off at this point.

I'm not writing anyone off, but I don't have high hopes for a major contribution. Especially considering our group and that most 18 year olds aren't typically game changers at a WC.

Nope, it's a massively tough group with world class talent everywhere you look. But if we beat Ghana, and can manage at least one draw from Germany/Portugal we could sneak out. And if we can manage those results the strength of the group may work in our favor.

The most likely goalscorers have to be Bacon, Jozy, Dempsey, and Bradley in some order since we don't have Eddie Johnson or Donovan.

Zusi is great but doesn't score a lot, Brad Davis could get some assists, and none of our central defenders are overly impressive in the air.

Yeah I mean I know they've been able to keep up with some of the world's best teams. For example the draw against England in the last WC, beat Spain in the Confederations Cup the year before and had Brazil on the ropes but sheesh. The #2 and #3 ranked teams in 1 group? Plus the team that has been in the American crawl for the past couple of WCs?

This is the sad thing. I think goals will be hard to come by, and that Landon would have been one of most likely to score.

The teams need to be seeded 1-32. The draw is moronic, but in theory, the top ranked team in each pot can be drawn into the same group, as well as the lowest ranked team in each group.

It's how we have the US, Ghana, Portugal, and Germany in one group, and how in 2002, we had South Korea, Russia, Belgium (when they sucked), and Tunisia in another.

Of course, we benefited big time in 2010, but we were in the 2nd hardest group in 2002.

The story of jozy's World Cup will come down to his first two scoring opportunities. If he can two GOOD shots on goal he'll have a good performance.

He's very streaker so I don't anticipate him having a bad game and then being able to bounce back for the next two or anything like that.

I don't envy Jozy because he plays by himself up there a lot of the time. He's a striker and depends on possession in the final third to allow him to get into a scoring position and a good final pass. It will be interesting to see how well we can do this. Otherwise it will be a hope and prayer on counter attacks for goals.

What does this mean?

This is a legitimate question.

I've been day drinking. Is this not another thread crying about Donovan being left out?

Eta: I reread the op. It is just that.

Eta2: ok I rereread the op. Is Jozy up to it?

Hopefully?

Can you muster enough attention to read the rest of the thread?

Your ignorance is what draws comparisons to the rant, not this thread.

The "thread" is a collection of posts. The majority of the posts have nothing to do with Donovan. I don't think it's that hard to comprehend.
