but is perfectly fine scheduling the Brazil World Cup games during the middle of the day instead of moving them to night when it comes to the hot Northern location games?

So really, is all about the European tv markets. Got to make sure the games are on prime-time there.

Guess I'll be using a lot of PTO this coming summer... and here I was hoping for some prime-time games to really give the US a chance to get good ratings for the games.

I freaking hate FIFA more than just about anything at this point. Its worse than the SEC office being an hour from Tuscaloosa and staffed by a bunch of former Bama grads.

Ehhhhh, an average high of around 90 degrees is much more bearable than 106 IMO.

I googled Brazil time zones and it appears they are a few hours ahead of the US. I doubt they would make concessions to start games at 9/10pm Brazil time to satisfy one country.

I think the time zones in the eastern part of the country, where the majority of the games are, is ahead of the US. But the western half is equal with the US eastern? Maybe I'm remembering wrong. Still, a 5 or 6pm kickoff in the US would be a lot better than noon or 1pm.

As for the weather - yes, 90 is more tolerable than 106, but its also about making sure the games are on at the best time for the Euro time zone no matter what. Ignore things when they want, and then make them issues at other times to suit their needs. I bet that 90 temp in Brazil will have a ton more humidity than Qatar will.

Plus, because of that decision as well as the stupid geographic/travel decisions for the group games, there are a couple of teams that will have to travel from winter conditions in the south to the 90 degree weather in the north (or vice versa) in the 4 days between group games and also between the three group games. I read that one team in the draw will travel 9,000km between their three games. Thats a bit drastic.

So if they adjusted it for primetime kickoff in the US it'd be ok?

Most of Brazil is either 3 or 4 hrs ahead of the US CST.

they only have 3 matches per day during grupu play say you are looking at noon/ 2:30/ 5 for kickoff times in the US

No, thats not it at all - I don't want them to move it to US prime time - I want them to operate as they normally do, which is put the games in the host country's prime time.

This would make it much closer to the US prime-time.

For instance, the US games Japan South Korea were routinely 4 or so in the morning which was around 7 pm in South Korea/Japan. I think we had one game at 230 am here as well, which would have made it 5:30 pm there.

Instead, from the article I read last night, it will be mid-day, afternoon, and late afternoon games in Brazil and prime-time to late night games in Europe.

That's because their DST runs opposite ours. It should be two during the World Cup

Most matches aren't held during primetime.
