Should Cup winners get a spot in the Champions League?

I've heard arguments for and against this and I'm curious as to the SB's opinion on this issue.

By cup winners do you mean domestic competitions?

I think they should. Obviously they've shown that they value and are good at getting through knockout competitions...so why not?

Champion's League? No. Europa League makes sense.

Yes main domestic cup. Aka the FA Cup not the Cap1 Cup.

I don't think so. I think it should remain as is with the domestic league top teams + Europe winners.

I'm kind of on the fence about it. On the one hand, I wouldn't want to take away a spot for the league table. Just using England this year as an example, right now we've got 6 teams vying for 2 CL spots, which is going to make the stretch run a lot more interesting than if it were just 1 spot.
That said, I'd like to see the domestic cups be a little more relevant, while giving some of the smaller clubs a better shot at getting into that CL money pot. But do you just add a spot for them? And at that point you've got 5 clubs from Spain, Germany and England I the CL? That does seem like too much.

If a CL spot would have been on the line, do you think Wigan would have still won it?

No I think the system is about as perfect as it can be now. The domestic cup winners gain entry into the Europa league. They then have the chance to enter the champions league by winning the Europa league.
Fair enough, but I think they should get rid of the 3rd place group finishers in the CL dropping down to the Europa.

Sure, stick them in the first or second qualifying rounds so they are playing early July qualifiers against Celtic

That's a good question. Would more of the teams who are projected in the 3-8 lineup (or even lower) go extra hard for this spot? But then does the winner of the competition they play (6 or so) games to win the tourney deserve a spot over the 4th place team who won that spot after 38 games against only teams in the top division? I'd say no.

Well at some level it is the "champions" league, right? Who is more of a champion, the 4th place finisher in La Liga or the winner of the Coppa Italia?
