Fernando Torres got injured and it looked bad. He was unconscious, teammates had to open his airway on the field.

Here's the replay.

Still have a soft spot for El Niño after his time in Liverpool

Hope he is okay. He was my first favorite player back when he was leading Spain on their ridiculous World Cup run.

I've come to love Torres the last couple of years.
I'll definitely be praying he's okay. I saw the replay and it looked horrible.

That was a pretty bad challenge. He was nowhere near the ball. Thankful to see he's okay.

Just watched the video.
Can any medical person explain what could have triggered them to have that reaction so quickly?
I mean it was obviously something because even guys on the other team were in on it but within 2 seconds of him hitting the ground, where on video it looks like a pretty normal fall, there are like 5 guys who are losing their shite. Even if he wasnt breathing there is no way they could have known that so quickly.
Either way glad he seems to be ok.

It was really weird how quickly everyone rushed to his aid. The sound it made must have been telling or possibly Torres made a sound that freaked them out? Had to be something along those lines for everyone to react the way they did as quick as they did

When he fell to the ground he wasn't breathing at first, apparently. His teammates knew he was KO'd and they opened his airway for him, allowing him to breathe, and one player grabbed his tongue so that he didn't swallow it.
Honestly, they probably saved him from another step that the actual first responders would have taken anyway. Once you swallow your tongue, you're possibly looking at automatic intubation (tube in the throat, by incision rather than oral insertion). Would have made the scenes there even more disturbing as well.
Side note: Big kudos to the majority of Deportivo fans... their ultras started negatively chanting about Torres while he was being worked on by EMTs, and the majority began to whistle in unison to drown out their ultras.
