When it comes to professional soccer players around the world, what is the order of importance to them:

World Cup
Champions League
League Champion

Is it representing their country or more loyalty to their club that pays their salary?

In terms of prestige, the World Cup will always be first because of perceived importance of a global event and because of how rare it is (every four years).

In terms of quality on the pitch, Champions League is the best.

Think it depends. If you are a player at a big club that wins league titles and UCLs frequently, but a country that has never won a World Cup, I could see winning that as more important (ex. Ronaldo winning a World Cup would probably be more important at this stage than another La Liga/UCL title). Conversely, a player from a country like Germany that just won the World Cup but plays at a smaller club would likely value a league title or UCL title more.

Unless you are a real bastard World Cup should be #1 for any player.

With all the dual national bs in International soccer though I'm sure CL is tops for some of those treasonous anti-patriots.

Like people have said, World Cup is more important to most.

I would add that winning Euros or Copa America is a lot more important to many players than anything for their club teams. I'd be shocked if many or any Chilean or Portuguese players would trade any club trophy for their recent NT trophies.

Tough call between CL and League trophies. League trophies do mean more to domestic fans in general than CL (like almost every single Roma or Napoli fan from Italy would take the Serie A title over CL) so I imagine a lot of domestic players and ones at one club for a long time feel that way too. Many players that move to different big clubs in foreign leagues may covet the CL more though.

1. World Cup

2. Euros/Copa America (for players from those countries)

3. League Title / CL (probably really depends on individual player and situation like how long it's been since club has won the league)

It's soccer, not war. Different players have different priorities and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

The reason I ask is because it seems some players seem to play harder or elevate their games for their club team more than their national team. I have thought that maybe team chemistry has a lot to do with it bc they spend more time playing with their club. Some good points brought up about it varying from player to player though.

Any specific examples of this?

In terms of USMNT, the only player that I can think of is Timmy Chandler and that was a special case within itself.

I wouldn't expect a two club wanker to have any value for things like loyalty and honor.

Zlatan comes to mind. Any time I've seen Sweden play he seemed disinterested.

Rooney the same as zlatan.

Sergio Ramos seems to play with more passion for RM

How are you defining passion?

I think a lot of it too could be the length of time for a player at a club. If they came up through the academy and there is some loyalty to the team I'm sure that domestic or champions league is important, but if it's their third or fourth team I'm sure it's exciting but not the most important. Clubs can change but your national team is always the same.

1. World Cup
2. Champions League
3. League title
4. Euros
5. Copa

I think every kid grows up dreaming of winning a World Cup. To make your country the undisputed best in the world would be an incredible feeling

Champions League is still special, even though the so called smaller teams haven't won much here lately.

The league title could obviously move ahead of UCL depending on what league you play in and how long ago you won your last title. For Leicester, I'd say their league win was probably #1 for them.

I put the Euros here because 9 of the 14 tournaments have been won by the "big 4" national teams. So it'd be more special to a little country

Copa I put last because it's (historically) basically a three horse race between Uruguay, Brazil & Argentina. If Venezuela, Bolivia or Ecuador were to win I'm sure it'd be higher than 5. But I know for Brazil we don't really care about Copa compared to the World Cup :shrugs:

To be fair, those three teams make up 3/8 of the World Cup winners, so that prestige in it's own should make winning the Copa special regardless of who wins it.

I see what you're saying.

But when those 3 World Cup winning teams make up almost half the amount of teams that have ever won the tournament, it's just looked at as second tier to almost half of the good teams in Copa.

Does that make any sense? Lol

I bet every single player for Chile would rather see their club teams relegated than give up those Copa trophies.

I bet Copa is a lot more important for most South American players than their paid gigs in Europe.

I also don't really agree with the OP in seeing many players play with less passion for national teams.

I'd say they generally play with a lot more passion (though that doesn't mean "better" and certainly not more effective when the national team isn't designed /drilled like the club team).
