"I was relieved that I knew that early, for sure," Gonzalez said. "I've had three weeks to prepare for this game. It's just a different environment, and a different mentality you can take when you know three weeks out when you're going to play, how you're going to prepare.

"Sometimes with Jurgen you wouldn't know until the day of the game," Gonzalez said. “It's just stressful, so with Bruce here taking that kind of approach here, it's been helping out a lot."

Good to hear someone confirm my main basis for believing that this was not like a klinsmann lineup. It seemed unorthodox to us, but there was a plan in place the whole time

Pretty much every quote in that article is Omar saying Jurgen did stupid shite.

quote:

"Going into the last game it was a maybe that we were going to use a 3-5-2," Gonzalez said. "We didn't know until a couple of days before the game and then it was just thrown out there.

"Now we had two weeks to really prepare," Gonzalez added. "One team was preparing to play against Trinidad in a 4-4-2, and the other team was preparing in a 3-5-2. We've been playing this now for a few weeks and so that's the reason there was a lot better understanding tonight, and the reason it worked for us tonight."

It's amazing Jurgen was our coach for so long. What kind of moron rolls out a new formation on a whim against our biggest rival?

that article shows 100% that the #1 thing Arena is focusing on is being clear with the players and having a plan before the day of the game. obviously this was a major issue with Jurgy and what they have to do to steer things back

Pretty much an idiot litmus test - anyone who thinks Arena trotting out a different line-up once is comparable to Jurgen doing it pretty much every game shouldn't be allowed to post anyway.

Puts Dempseys temper tantrum in a little context, since he probably already knew he was gonna sit against mexico.

It makes sense. They played like a well prepared team last night. I like to hear stuff like this.

Makes you wonder what dumb shite we were doing to prepare under Jurgen.

We lost to Mexico in Columbus with our best lineup under JK, and drew against them in Azteca with a less than optimal lineup under Bruce. Having a clear gameplan the players are comfortable with is the difference.

1. Express yourself
2. Impose your will
3. Get out of your comfort zone

Which is incoherent when paired with his belief that the players weren't talented enough.

It's just so comforting and refreshing to watch our guys have a clear understanding of what they and everyone around them are supposed to be doing

Here's another article where Bradley pretty much says the same.
quote:

“At the end of last year, a lot of little things started to drop,” Bradley said on Sunday. “And when we get our blend right in terms of football, physicality, athleticism, mobility, speed, mentality, spirit—when we get that right, there aren’t too many teams in the world that are going to have easy days playing against us, and we feel like we can step on the field and beat anybody.

“But if a few too many areas start to come down, then we’re also honest enough with ourselves to understand that our margin is not real big, and then we’re going to start putting ourselves in some difficult spots. For me, it was just a case at the end of last year where a few too many areas started to drop. And I think Bruce has done a very good job of coming in and little by little, working at raising the level across the board. A big part of that is this idea of team, of spirit, of mentality, of balls.”

We certainly weren't afraid of Mexico during Arena's first tenure. Beat them quite a few times, most famously in Korea, of course. Gave Germany all they wanted, too, in the following game. It's nice to see that fearless mentality again.

We had some good results at times under Jurgen, but too often it seemed like our players felt we had no chance before the game even started, and played like it. 2015 friendly against Brazil and 2016 Copa America semifinal against Argentina are great examples.

New OU HC Lincoln Riley as JK - "Ok guys, I know we've practiced HUNH spread all summer and last week against UTEP we only had to go up the middle w/FB dives all game but today for this game against Ohio State, I think we should run triple option and control the clock. Ok and Baker Mayfield? We are going to move you to WR and have our young RB Abdul Adams take snaps so he can use his toughness on them. Defense? We are going to move to a 4-4 stack. Yes, I know we've played nickel all year but safety really isn't all that different than LB so the backup freshmen are going to now start at Mike and Sam. Also, Kyler Murray is now going to play DB b/c we think his size will make it hard for Ohio State to see where he is defending. They will never see this coming!"
