He'll still be a good guy to have around but I could see him being phased out. Not sure if he's worth his wages though at this point.

150k/wk was desperation... He is very good squad/versatile player... I just don't see him as a CM in a contending side.. especially not in a two

I had forgot that Benteke is who BvB originally wanted to replace Lewandowski

Klopp didn't have full control over transfers with Dortmund, fwiw
This is 100% true. In fact, Liverpool are allegedly targeting the Dortmund director of football to come in after the season (he's said he won't be going anywhere during the season).

I got all this from the Anfield Index podcast, so no linked information.

They essentially re-iterated the fact that the transfer committee is here to stay, and that Klopp prefers it that way. He wants guys he trusts on the committee, but he certainly won't be making the calls on who to bring in and who to ship out.

Same thing with Ancellotti, not that it matters at this point.

Also, Klopp's coaches are Bosnians. So get ready to genocide all over the rest of the EPL's faces. Bitches.

How do you like the Anfield Index pod? I only started listening this week after Jim Boardman was on as guest. I'm a big fan of TAW, but I could probably find the time fit in another pod during the week.

Are fans still pretty confident we get Klopp?

I enjoy it on the ride to and from work. Aside from this board and twitter, it's the only other coverage I get on Pool, so I appreciate the insight. The panel was split on the firing of Rodgers, and they all agreed that the 13/14 season was the most fun they've had as Liverpool supporters, including the season we went second with Torres/Gerrard lighting it up.

Anfield Index

I listened to the one from Sunday when Rodgers was fired and they though Klopp was the choice.

I enjoyed it. It was basically a bunch of people I follow on twitter, including the guy who broke the news last week.

Now that my commute in the evenings is ~ an hour. I'll listen to more of these.

This is why Pool needs Klopp. We are not Chelsea, City, Arsenal, or Man U when it comes to yearly expenditures on transfers. We have money, but not like those clubs.

But Klopp didn't pick those players on his own...

But his style/personality does seem to work better with younger players willing to learn... Not necessarily a team full of Galacticos

No, not like Chelsea or City. But I believe our spending the last few years has been comparable to Arsenal and Utd. If not more. It's just a shame the quality has not been there.

That's what I've read as well. Transfers went through a director of football. And Klopp had a positive relationship with the transfer committee. It would be great to have everyone on the same page.

I think Klopp can succeed with what we have. I can see him making a splash in the January window with a CB and winger. We have a ton of attacking talent and I think we can rally and really make something of this season. We're behind Leicester, Crystal Palace, West Ham, Everton, Tots and Southhampton. We can turn this sucker around with the talent we've got.

There is no doubt in my mind that we have talented players. Whether Klopp can win with them immediately is a question though. His preferred style of play is similar to Brendan's as Klopp certainly favors the 4-2-3-1. The players should be able to adapt fairly quickly.

CB, and solving the midfield duo will be the biggest questions. The goals will come.

We do not have those funds ever year. We sold Suarez and Sterling, which accounted for a lot of the spending. We will not have that type of money to throw around consistently, which is why we need to spend wisely when buying, ala Klopps Robin Hood approach.

Think about all the contacts he'll have in the Bundesliga and Germany's lower divisions. It'll be like what Rafa did with Spanish talent.

Exactly.

This is why I always prefer foreign managers to English.

The English youth system is generally garbage and there is no advantage whatsoever in having a homegrown manager.

And it's all about mentality, we have the talent, the mentality has change since Suarez left and that is the huge problem. Klopp will change that and be a breath of fresh air.

Well when you play a young CAM at RWB, CDM at LB, Strikers at LWB and other ridiculous positions and formations, players tend to look shite. Add to that a weak minded, cowardly negative football approach, 360 degrees the opposite of how you played 2 seasons ago..

Oh yea, and wrecking confidence by locking players out without fair shots, especially when they're young, also doesn't help.

Playing favorites and making lazy veteran picks also doesn't help.

Brendan was the KING of all three of these scenarios.

First player out, regardless of manager will most likely be Lovren who by all accounts was Rodger's golden boy despite being a 20m lbs turd.
