that was a very impressive performance. I was just waiting for them to stumble like they've been doing this year but for once pounded a team they were supposed to. it will be awesome if they can keep this lineup healthy.

The club has confirmed that we have agreed a deal for Joel Matip (Schalke) for next summer, on a Bosman...

I'm not sure if he's a nailed on starter... but should be an upgrade over Toure/Lovren as the third (or fourth)CB... I'd still hope we can get a top CB to partner Sakho..
Matip can also play DM...
I personally haven't seen him play muc.., this is just info. I have gathered from reading up on him quite a bit the past few months..

I just wanted to voice how impressed I am with Origi - he was complete @#$@# right when Klopp got here, but Klopp sat him out of the gameday squad, helped him work on things, and he came out against Southhampton and scored, and after a long injury hang-up, he scored with his first touches yesterday. Unlike how BR was trying to use him, Klopp has essentailly told him - here's what you're good at, go and do it. I also think he's going to be a good understudy to Studge because I see some similarities to their approach - though he's got a ton of room to get to Studge's level of finishing, etc. That will make it easier to sit Studge a bit and not completely lose our style of play.
But you know Bentenke doesn't hit that home yesterday like Origi did.
I'm excited about Matip - I think he'll do well here and you know Klopp knows exactly what he's getting out of him. This isn't an accident or gamble on Klopps part.

Yeah, totally different team with the creative forces of cou and sturridge for sure... Villa is bad, but man have we put this away!
My thoughts exactly. I kept waiting for us to give up a cheap counter goal or two, but we held strong, and we kept pouring it on. Not that we didnt try to give them a cheap one or two. Was great to see us at full offensive strength finally. I started watching 2-0 just after halftime, and boy am I glad I tuned in. Granted Villa is clearly a horrendous team, but it was glad to treat a horrendous team as such. All season we have done well against the top tier teams, and tend to choke away matches against lower tier teams. Draw against Sunderland after being up 2-0 and losing at Newcastle when they couldnt buy a win stand out in this regard. We finally owned an inferior opponent for the entirety of the match. I hope we can stay healthy and continue plugging away. Would be nice to finish out the campaign on a positive note with starters staying healthy and building some chemistry to use going forward.

Wow just looked at our last 6 games, and boy is that nice to see. After hosting Tottenham at home on April 2nd, we close the campaign with the following...
April 9 - Home vs Stoke
April 16 - At Bournemouth
April 23 - Home vs Newcastle
April 30 - At Swansea
May 7 - Home vs Watford
May 15 - At West Brom
Watford and Stoke sit directly under us at 9th and 10th in the table, but Bournemouth, Newcastle, Swans, and West Brom all rank in the bottom 7 of the standings. Finishing 4-2 over that stretch with 12 points is very obtainable.

I was thinking the same thing... a) Benteke doesn't have that kind of pace b)he would have screwed it up
I also agree that Origi is starting to show why we bought him... he's still got a ways to go..
I was really underwhelmed with him for the first couple of months.. played with no confidence or sense of purpose... Klopp has instilled both in him..

Almost third page guys, come on.

Allow me to rescue this thread before it falls onto the third page...
Anyone else listening to the Anfield Index Under Pressure Podcast? I'm reallying digging the statistical look at pressing, etc. For players, for specific games, and over the long haul under Klopp, the trends should be really interesting.
Essentially three goals against Villa were directly set up by pressing action (assuming you include the Milner free kick which was set up by a ball one in their third from pressing).
Looking for us to start our best XI possible today and it should be interesting. No games again for a week since we're out of the FA cup this weekend. I don't want to have to start Studge, etc. next Thursday in the return leg with the Cap Cup Finals on the weekend looming.

I have learned that looking ahead at what should be an easy schedule only results in disappointment. Every single time.

Fricking THIS.
I really hope we just blow Auggies out today. If we want silverware, this is a moment we need to step up for.

Looks like the exact same line-up as it was for Villa.
Hope we see a similar result

If you guys could keep me updatedin this thread, I'd appreciate that. No worries if you can't. Having a medical procedure done and won't be home until about the mid-way point.
