We here is DDR's chance to prove himself.

I'll be rooting for the azzurri regardless.

When I think about it, I guess some fans of the Azzurri aren't so sold on De Rossi is simply that it's seemed a tricky proposal at times to find midfield tactics where he fits best with Pirlo. DDR's natural position is regista and at Roma he's used to pulling the strings Pirlo will for the Azzurri.

However, I'm still convinced that DDR's just too much of a world class talent to not find a place he can contribute.

Prandelli had him higher up the pitch when during qualifying and friendlies. But it's not even out of the realm of possibility that he could slot into a 3 man defense and allow Maggio and Criscito to get forward more as that's both of their strengths.

Interesting to see that Marco Verratti has already gotten a call up. Hope all the "Pirlo in waiting" talk doesn't go to his head and he'll stay another year to learn under Zeman at Pescara.

The whole squad presents a host of lineup problems for prandelli. I'm sure he will figure out something, wish it was colder and he could rock the purple puffy-jacket again.

I was going to say Carrol.. but do Danny should have some chemistry with Rooney already which gives him inroads on the competition.

I like the idea between carroll and Rooney up top with Carroll holding up the ball and the flick ons to Rooney, but think Danny and rooney have chemistry. Whoever starts will be on a short leash

4-5-1?

They brought in a lot of winger types.

maybe i'm being a homer, but i'm appalled by the exclusion of richards from the squad. i mean seriously, phil jones over micha richards? get real.

i'll be pulling for france.

How on earth is Downing in that squad over A.Johnson or Lennon? Saw Roy said it came down to Richards and Jones. Whats wrong with that statement is it implies that Glenn Johnson is better than Richards.

tim howard has more goals and assists that downing!

like i said, richards' exclusion is frustration. what is even more annoying is that he will probably be in the GB olympic squad and have to miss the start of the season.

Sturridge as well as he has played the same position this season. Not sure how you can take a winger who just finished the season with 0 goals and 0 assists. Also consider that Downings reputation in the past was he couldn't handle the big stage with England and he was viewed as one of the majors scapegoats of the McLaren era. He's got to be such a headcase at this point after the season he just had, wouldn't touch him with a 30 foot pole.

Johnson>Richards is also a massive mistake. Why continue to trot out the same old players who've had a shot with England and underperformed? I thought Roy was a bit of an outside the box selection but now that he has the job it looks like its gonna be the some old predictable England.

picking downing is a fricking disgrace. really what does the guy offer that you don't already have covered. agree with the richards sentiment as well. Call me crazy but I would've selected sturridge over welbeck. While welbeck has the physical tools to be an out and out striker his touch and hold up play has been lacking. Sturridge played a fair part at chelsea setting up others and getting to the endline. Just think he would be a better compliment to rooney and carroll.

I'm a little confused, too... but in regards to A. Johnson, he's barely played all season, so I understand that choice...

Well he did play football outside of this season...

This is the 4th consecutive England manager to call him up for the national team so it really isn't a shock. Plus, he has played fairly well for England

Im glad that Andy and Stu are going, hopefully they'll continue to gel together...

To be fair to Stu he had a few balls in that should have been assists, but our guys couldnt finish... but yeah, not a typical season you would think that would warrant international football..
