In his first public comments since Wednesday morning’s arrest of numerous FIFA officials, Blatter told FIFA’s annual congress that the organization must repair its reputation.
“I know a lot of people hold me responsible for the actions and reputations of the global football community,” Blatter said, “whether it is the decision of hosting a World Cup or a corruption scandal.”
“We, or I, cannot monitor everyone all of the time. If people want to do wrong, they will also try to hide it. But it must also fall to me to be responsible for the reputation of our entire organization, and to find a way to fix things.
“I will not allow the actions of a few to damage the reputation of FIFA.”
The 79-year-old FIFA president, who will likely be reelcted for a fifth term in Friday’s election, is currently being challenged by Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein for FIFA’s presidency.
While Blatter did not discuss the election directly, the president did state that Wednesday’s events would be a turning point for the organization. Vowing to help the ongoing investigations, Blatter says that FIFA will emerge from this difficult time with increased trust from the public.
“We cannot allow the reputation of FIFA to be dragged through the mud any longer,” Blatter said. “It has to stop here and now. The events of yesterday have cast a long shadow over football, and over this week’s Congress. The actions of individuals, if proven, bring shame and humiliation on football and demand reaction from us all.
“There can be no place for corruption of any kind,” Blatter added. “The next few months will not be easy for FIFA. I’m sure more bad news may follow. But it is necessary to begin to restore trust in our organization. Let this be the turning point.”

Brit factor
If he means England, he should probably look into the FA cancelling a friendly in Trinidad after Russia got the WC.

Canadian Soccer Association president says Canada will not vote for Sepp Blatter. #FIFA

Unfortunately I think the US, Canada and Europe voting against Sepp Blatter won't make any bit of difference in the election.
The fact that he hasn't bowed out of the election even though his crew's been brought down tells me that the votes were bought months ago.
I sincerely hope I'm wrong though...

Africa and Asia are still in his pocket, I believe. Those two continents are the most important when it comes to these elections since they have the most votes. I wish I didn't love soccer as much as I do because it would be really great to just hope this whole thing breaks in a glorious mess.

Yeah unfortunately Africa and the Caribbean are already bought and they aren't budging. The people in power there get to keep the status quo under Blatter. Ali has a slightly better chance now that all this has come to light, but he still won't win I don't think. The good thing though is that even if Blatter wins its still sort of a victory for us in a sense because the world now knows the truth about fifa and Sepp... "And these people still reelected this guy? What the frick is wrong with them?" will be the mass response.

Agreed. And now other officials at FIFA and the FAs will know somebody will actually come after them.
Depending on what information the Swiss have and if someone flips to plea for lesser charges, Blatter might get nailed down the road anyway.

Looks like all of UEFA is voting for Ali and now rumblings are that Asia will vote Ali which means Blatter is done.

Oh shite... that changes everything if true.

Even Russia? I'm not saying this isn't true, but it seems like there would be at least a few pro-Blatter countries in there.

This is huge. CNN International did a vote breakdown by region a couple of hours ago, and they were projecting all those votes for Blatter, including Jordan.

Most of UEFA is going with Ali

FA chairman Greg Dyke has told Sky Sports News HQ that if Sepp Blatter wins Friday's FIFA presidential vote, he wants talks with the other UEFA nations about pulling out of the World Cup finals in Russia in three years' time.
Dyke is uncertain whether a unilateral boycott by England would be a realistic option but believes a pan-European approach would be more effective to bring about change at the top in football's world governing body.
