So Nigeria drew 1-1 with Egypt in a Cup of Nations qualifier. Not really the news, except that a stadium disaster might have been avoided since no one rushed the pitch because of a win as this article points out.

quote:

Disaster for Nigeria was the only way to describe the Salah goal, but it may have been the major reason another possible disaster was avoided. A crowd-management breakdown meant the 25,000 capacity Ahmadu Bello stadium in Kaduna was filled by upwards of 40,000. The arena was bursting at the seams, with fans climbing up the scoreboard and even up as far as the floodlights! Nigerian fans often invade the pitch after wins, so a potential stampede was diffused by the late goal as the deflated fans instead trooped out, shepherded by security personnel.

The one with the people sitting on top of the scoreboard was crazy, too. Did anybody get injured badly?
