I just used to think Manchester United stood for something. Apparently I was wrong

Martial and James Rodriguez think otherwise.

Hire Zdenek Zeman if you want 5-3 matches

Sorry we let you down, DS

And sorry if I'm not ready to napalm our entire history just because we hired Mourinho. I'll give you the fact he's had a certain way of operating in the past. We'll just have to wait and see how he works with the board at United. I hope that over time we can restore your prematurely lost faith in our club ethos.

I'd rather Lacazzette. That's a fan base whose soul needs to be crushed

I'd like winning soccer, mostly. At least Mou won't base his success on dominance of useless possession!

Lol he is the complete opposite of their entire club ethos. Manchester United is dead.

You are unbelievable.

There aren't really any great long-term options available right now. Why wouldn't United hire a proven winner for a few years until there is someone who fits the club's profile a little better?

Sure, I think the game is changing where the biggest clubs aren't going to be relying on youth as heavily as we saw in the past. United will probably never have another Class of 92, but I think I can bank on them normally having at least a couple academy grads in their squad.

Acting like United's valuation of youth is dead is ridiculous. A United academy grad scored a world class winner in a cup final today

United's academy pumped out players before Ferguson. It's produced several solid ones in the few years he's been gone. Mourinho will not give many chances, but 2.5 years isn't going to kill the club's entire legacy. (*Nigel Pearson voice*) If you think that, you are an ostrich.

ETA: You actually made me defend Manchester United. Congrats on reaching a new level of insufferable posting.

I said they can hire whoever and that's fine, I just don't want to hear about how Man U is such a different and special club anymore

This is what clubs that are losing say to make themselves feel better until they start winning. When the shite hits the fan all the big clubs are the same. Man United had a great run with youth products and then Barca after them. Once those lightning strikes subsided they both fell in line with everyone else and now spend as much, or more, than anybody.

I don't know if this will prove to be a good hire, but... and this may be the only impartial think i'll say about man u.. they absolutely had to make a change..

They need to stabilize short term and then think long term, IMO... These are sort of unprecedented times in the EPL.. big 4 days are over... too many clubs capable of getting those spots now...

the North East is strong now with Mourinho, Pep and Klopp.. will be interesting to see who the toffees bring in.. Emery??

Hell there will be some very interesting tactical battles coming next year - should be great for spectators. And mou's press conferences should be gold too!

Personally I think this is Man U looking at what everyone else has and knowing that they have to have a top class manager immediately rather than try to find that long term replacement they really want.
