After months and months of speculation and rumors, the league has made an official word on the 20th MLS club, and it looks like it'll be in Queens. Article includes stadium plans and quotes from execs.

Will it be the Cosmos? Will it be Queens FC? Who knows.

Looks like there won't be any new expansion until at least 2017, leaving us Southeasterners in the dust once again.

New York already has a team (that isn't well supported). frick that noise.

And before everyone jumps on my arse about it, yes, I know NYRB is basically in New Jersey.

I drove through Brooklyn and Queens just a couple of weeks ago.

Soccer. Fields. Everywhere.

literally saw more soccer field than basketball courts/baseball fields. Was not even close.

New York United...or, even better, New York City.

Let the colors be orange and blue, from the city flag.

Let them be called the Dutch.

I've heard MLS and Garber talk about 24 clubs being ideal. We will get one of those in the SE USA, most likely here in my city with the others going to Orlando, San Diego, and the midwest (most likely Minneapolis, Detroit, or Indianapolis).

Apparently you need a permit to have a pickup game, or something stupid like that. Just because there is green space doesn't mean you can take the whole thing up. It's dumb.

It was a Saturday. All of it did look organized, don't recall seeing any pick up games.

I definitely believe it. Still I was shocked by the number of fields.

Not on the same level, but the giant soccer comes in Auburn is that way, too. Fields and fields and fields, can't play pickup without some sort of special permission.

So we go to the rundown field next to the local HS football stadium and play with all the Mexicans.

MLS really, really wants a club in St. Louis. In Garber's words, a club there would be placed perfectly close between KC and Chicago, bridging the rivalries that MLS is focused on creating.

However, they have searched high and low for an ownership group capable of operating a club there and found nothing. Garber said he is very disappointed with the ownership prospects for that city. This financial reality coupled with previous fan support for teams and marketing surveys executed by MLS has led them to move on to other midwest alternatives to St. Louis.

New MLS Franchise Power Rankings:

1. New York 2
2. San Antonio
3. Orlando
4. Miami
5. Las Vegas.
6. Atlanta
7. St. Louis
8. Detroit
9. Nashville
10. Odessa, TX (But not those hillbillies from Midland)

ETA: Chivas USA might move to San Diego in a few years if this downward trend in attendance continues (and probably a rebranding of the club). I also think that Robert Kraft might sell the Revs if a stadium can't get built near Boston.

I'd switch Atlanta and Miami. Miami's already had their chance.

ETA: Speaking of Atlanta, the Silverbacks are possibly rebranding for next season. Thank God. That's an awful name.

Yea, Miami's not getting a(nother) team. Tampa Bay failed as well.

Orlando is getting a club before too long...maybe the first after New York City. Garber loves the ownership group that is working there and the financial foundation is already in place...all that needs to be worked out now is the stadium.
