I might be wrong, but I think Zusi struggles a little bit when he's being pushed around and doesn't have as much space on the field. When he has time to distribute and cross the ball he's a really good player.

He had a poor run of form after the WC last season. He's not been the same caliber of player since.

I don't think he translates well to the international game. International soccer is more about energy and pace to help make up for not having quite the same chemistry as a club side. He just can't handle that out wide. It's not a knock on him as a player. Some people just don't ever seem to translate club ability to the international stage.
