Montreal is packed for big games but they're not a fair example because they have a big stadium that isn't always filled. So they have good numbers but doesn't always look good. NYCFC are similar because yankee stadium isn't reasonably size for their following.

Orlando hasn't been packed after the first few weeks because the team is awful (similar to NYCFC but much worse actual). SKC has a great supporters section but I don't think
you can put them in that top tier of support.

Even if you want to include all of those teams as great examples, it's still less than half of the league. The league is definitely growing and I think we have a lot to be excited about. But the ticket sales number is the most overblown stat that people use imo.

Is it possible that some of us just don't believe MLS has done near as much to grow the game here as is often claimed?

But the repetitive nature and tone of your posts suggests that in you opinion MLS had done nothing to grow the sport and rather has been a negative factor

It´s growing, big time. The product, is another discussion, but it´s growing, as well.

As for the TV deal, I believe the famous phrase ´it is what it is´ applies, no?

I try to watch the MLS on occasion but the level of play is so poor IMHO that I don't enjoy it. One of the main issues for me is officiating. They seem to ignore almost everything until they insert themselves into the story line. Random penalties, random reds, and being habitually inconsistent is a frustrating watch. The lack of simple things from the players (passing lanes, moving off of the ball, defensive shifts) and the dribble until you lose it (or are HACKED by a defender) modes are unwatchable in my book. No thanks.

It baffles me that people don't understand that comparing the MLS to Euro leagues is utterly useless. I mean how can you not see it?

Because he doesn't want to see it.

You see, Sanctions has an axe to grind and he does it fairly often. Everyone here knows his schtick. He loved the nasl and he's been pretty chapped and butthurt that they've killed themselves off by making bad business decisions, failing at strategy, being bad with money, and just generally stinking it up. And considering that Sanctions has ranted for years about how flawed MLS' model is he is especially upset at watching them continue to grow while his baby dies not with a bang but a whimper.

So he scours the Internet looking for something negative and finds this bit where more people watch MX and 22% watch PL while 7% watch MLS.

After masturbating himself, because he can't get laid with another person, he runs to the SB and gleefully makes a thread about it. Then he pleasures himself again. Then back off to looking for something else negative about MLS.

Meanwhile MLS continues to grow.

And Newcastle is where it belongs in the Championship. And PSG isn't going to win Ligue 1 even with a payroll of 1 jillion euros.

I wonder what percentage of MLS viewership is ESPN/FS versus Univision.

Yeah, it makes me think that US soccer might have a reason for pushing the bilingualism thing.

This makes us pushing for the young south american players seem that much more important, especially if the salary cap increases a good bit after the next CBA. If we can start bringing in more of them, the people watching liga mx and the other south american teams might start watching more MLS if some of their favorite players start coming here.

Not really bc the demographic for it has been here for a few generations and is growing. Univision and Telemundo were showing lots of matches well before the NBC EPL deal when we maybe got 4 or 5 matches a week with fox and ESPN.

Mexicans and South Americans are two different animals, and they do not like each other.

They simply speak different variants of the same language. That is as far as the similarity and potential for affinity go.

Yes, but getting good players from central and south america can increase interest from the different groups. MLS isn't really in position to compete with Liga MX right now, but they can get the south americans. As the cap increases, you might start seeing teams pull some guys from mexico though, and that's when MLS could start seeing a boost in viewership from the mexican population following guys they liked and stuff like that.
