Well... It kinda sucks compared to the other leagues. Atlanta by itself will boost that number I think.

Maybe, just maybe, the MLS model is flawed.

That's not why people aren't watching.

DS has to talk about the flawed MLS model every few months.

And what percent is NASL at?

Not watching because of poor product. Poor product because MLS model is flawed

The actual important thing to note is that Liga MX has a 50% larger viewership than the Prem. I am sure the MLS is trying to get more viewers from everywhere, but the ceiling is a lot lower if the league is targeting the viewers watching the Premier League and other top European leagues.

You're right. That's why alternative models, like the NASL, have been so successful.

Also, the comparison is incredibly flawed. How many MLS matches were there in October, November, and December compared to the EPL or la liga, or the Mexican league? MLS has very few games during much of this study period because of the playoffs format. Of course there are much less viewers for a league in which there are fewer games.
How about we look at other metrics, like the fact that almost a 10th of Canada's population watched the semifinal between Toronto and Montreal, or that for the first time in that country's history a professional hockey game got canceled because of a soccer game?
MLS already has a better average attendance per game than the NBA, which is encouraging for the growth and popularity of the league. Soccer is very much a growing sport in our country, and MLS has only been around 20 years. How long have those other leagues been around to grow their following and improve their product? We need to stop comparing apples to oranges and appreciate the steady growth of soccer here. We're moving in the right direction. I don't buy into the doom and gloom statistics.

Don't disagree with most of what you've said but know that the attendance number is paid. If you watch games, you'll see that outside of 2-3 teams, every stadium is half empty unless it's a really big game. For every team that stunk (outside of Portland), I'd be surprised if more than half the stadium was full at any time.
I think that the clubs need to work to better ingrain themselves in the communities and build a culture that builds itself into the city.

Don't be deluded
If heavy Hispanic areas like LA, DC, Dallas and Houston don't already boost the numbers then ATL won't make a dent. The south isn't exactly known to be a hot bed of soccer popularity.

The thing is, the MLS season is set up to not compete with football so it's not like the south will have that to watch for most of the time. Hopefully it takes off and more kids start wanting to be the next Almiron

Atlanta will help the average attendance for sure since there are already a ton of Founding Members, but it will probably only result in a small uptick in TV viewership.

Yet this season (as a whole) MLS tv ratings were the highest they have ever been. The increase from last year was significant. There is a reason why cities are fighting each other to get an MLS franchise.
Pretty much cwil nails it. It's a shite study. When you look at all matches in all leagues that were actually televised from Aug to Dec MLS probably only accounts for 7%. PL literally televised every single match. Even Watford vs Swansea City.
