I'm not very knowledgeable at all in the TV deal or FA, but can someone explain to me why they tend to frick over their own teams in Europe by making them play games on Sunday, especially when they have to travel out of the country the next day?

I know you can't possibly reschedule them all, but you would think they would maybe make exceptions for those who make it out of the group stages maybe.

If United win, which Pellers will know beforehand, I expect us to field a solid team, but if they draw or lose then it will probably be the kiddos again. It's just annoying.

I'm assuming someone on here will have some good info.

Why should City get special last minute treatment.

Sky and BT paid a shite load of money to show these games so they pick who is on tv. Which gets your club more money. This is what happens when you go far in Europe and your fixture list gets congested. I know this is a new thing for City but stop bitching. If you have a deep squad, the fixtures adding up is no problem and it's how you win a treble.

The year United won the treble I remember them playing Liverpool on a Friday night before they played in Europe the next week.

nope

they played Liverpool on a Thursday and then 6 days later vs Bayern in the group stages. That early on in the season both the league and Europe schedule are set in stone. EPL games are set before Europe. Adjusting of matches start to happen around November for tv.

The sunday to Wednesday gap is nothing new for group stages or knockout rounds.

If you actually take a look at the fixtures that year especially the last two months United were swamped. Had to play Arsenal in the FA Cup twice in four days.

Damn, you are right.

I swear I remember a Fri game that was moved to help a team or both that were playing in Europe that year (I lived in Manchester) but if it wasn't United I don't know who it would have been. I'm getting old.

Bro, I'm not bitching lol. I'm just wondering why the FA and the networks make it more difficult, not only for City, but for all of their English counterparts.

Liverpool refused to let Chelsea move a game during the near title run of 12/13. Ended up backfiring as Jose trolled us with the triple parked bus and time wasting tactics starting in the first minute. I always wondered what would have happened if we had let him move it a day and he had possibly started a more potent line-up to take us head on.

I think the FA should definitely consider this in the future - the coefficient, CL success are all important things. Plus, ManCity will likely put out a second team, so the TV viewer won't be as interested anyway.

We won't send out a second team if United are winning Sunday. We play a couple of hours after and Pellers will certainly field the team based on what that result is looking like.

Apparently you don't understand how setting a roster works. You can't just start whoever just right before game time. You have to turn in final roster well in advance.

Pursuant to rule L.21:

quote:

At least 75 minutes before the time fixed for the kick-off of a League Match, a senior member of the coaching staff and the first team captain of each participating Club shall attend a briefing with the referee and hand to him and their opponents a team sheet in Form 9

United kicks off at 8:05 (CT), City kicks off at 10:30 (CT). City's team sheet is due at 9:15(CT), so there will have been a good bit of the game played.

On another note, crying about the scheduling of these games is ridiculous. It's part of being in, and progressing in, these tournaments. It's tough, but we should have the depth to compete across all competitions.
