They just have more talent, creative talent at that, than we do in the midfield. Our mids would turn the ball over and Arsenal were shoving it down our defenders throats before we knew what was happening.

We were outclassed in a lot of areas today.

It pains me to say it, but I think I've finally given up on Lucas. Love the guy, love his heart, love his work ethic. But his poor positioning and refusal to track led to at least one (if not both) goals today. And he's been responsible for many more over the course of this season. We need to buy an upgrade in January.

Midfield has been our weakest area in almost all of our games this year.

Gerrards play over the last 4 or 5 games has been bad. I don't know if he's tired, just out of form, or unsure what to do because of our complete change in philosophy this year.

I think we need to try different combinations in there starting next weekend. If only to have some idea on our best combo before the January window.

I am also not certain we're going to be able to keep two at the top as we'll need more in the midfield. And I wouldn't mind trying Suarez playing behind Sturridge, ala Rooney and Van Persie, though I think Suarez is much worse at being a passer and set-up man than Rooney is. Due to our midfield, Suarez had to drop deep for a lot of the game anyway yesterday.

When I saw Flanagan was starting, I was ready to admit defeat... Not that he was the reason we lost, it just gave me a feeling...

BR HAS to sign a DM in January... good thing is there are tons in Europe better than Lucas... We did have a little bit more spark with Cou in the game, but we also need a goal scoring mid.. a little tougher to find, but they are out there...

we're gonna have to spend in Jan if we want to keep pushing for top 4

Never thought I'd say this, but I agree.

Well at least we're tied for 2nd right now. We should respond well against Fulham on Saturday.

I'm not even mad.

Yeah we should have a good run of wins until that crucible in late December. Hopefully we can have the old 4-4-3 formation reestablished by then.

Would love to see us bring in at least 2 mids in January. What a difference Eriksen could have been. A what if scenario for sure, but would be nice to have more quality options right about now.

I think the formation was the biggest problem. 3 v 1 at the back is always pointless. Pool should play a 4-3-3 with Suarez cutting in from the right and Moses on the left. Suarez wide leaves him one on one with an RB while Moses creates space on the left. Or play the 4-4-1-1 with Suarez and Sturridge. Or play a diamond in midfield if you really want to jam your best players on the field at the same time.

I've hated the wing backs since the beginning. I get the pragmatism, but we look clueless every single game. That attacking line in that 4-3-3 was absolutely deadly and I miss it.

4-4-2 probably suits LFC better at the moment since we genuinely do not have a single Premier League-caliber wide player.

Moses, though awful centrally, is somewhat serviceable on the left. Its not ideal, but he can't be much worse than Sterling or Aspas and we saw success with both of those players in a three man attacking line.

What would your ideal 4-4-2 be?

How about a 4-2-3-1?

Mignolet
Johnson Sakho Agger Enrique
Henderson Lucas
Gerrard Coutinho Suarez
Sturridge

Is it retarded to think that could work? You can be honest.

I don't think its retarded by any means. My only concern would be Gerrard on the right. Its been a long, long time since he played on the right under Rafa. He was largely ineffective, if I remember correctly. Of course that was Rafa just experimenting because of injuries, and it was a very long time ago so I don't expect the same results.

Suarez is most effective cutting inside from the left, Cou and Danny in their preferred spots, and Henderson providing the defensive cover with his work rate. All seems alright to me.

Rafa played Gerrard on the right because Rafa believed that was where he was best

I just don't know what to do with Gerrard, other than limit him to 60 min per game. Which isn't going to happen.

I thought that all happened after an injury? Then he kept him there.
