Typically, the majority of the best players in Spain, Germany, Italy etc are from those countries.

That is not the case for the Premier League. The very top tier of players that play in England are not from England. There are a couple exceptions obviously, but you get the idea.

What other leagues are like this?

Not necessarily. Real and Barcelona are full of players from all over the world. (as well as most teams)

Lionel Messi
Cristiano Ronaldo
Luis Suarez
Antoine Griezemann
Toni Kroos
Gareth Bale
etc.

All great Spanish players plying their trade in Spain's La Liga.

I looked at SoFIFA — not a great metric, but an easily searchable one and one that shouldn't be too off from popular opinions — to measure this La Liga claim.

Of the players rated 85 or higher, here's the country breakdown:

La Liga

- Spain: 5
- France: 4
- Brazil: 3
- Uruguay: 2
- Croatia: 2
- Germany: 2
- Argentina: 1
- Wales: 1
- Slovenia: 1
- Belgium: 1
- Costa Rica: 1

By comparison...

Premier League

- Belgium: 7
- France: 4
- Spain: 4
- Brazil: 2
- Germany: 2
- Chile: 1
- Argentina: 1
- Sweden: 1
- Denmark: 1
- Czech Republic: 1
- England: 1
- Armenia: 1

Bundesliga

- Germany: 7
- Spain: 2
- Poland: 1
- Netherlands: 1
- Gabon: 1
- Chile: 1
- France: 1
- Austria: 1
- Colombia: 1
- Greece: 1
- The United States of America: 1 (not really, but it should be)

Serie A

- Italy: 6
- Brazil: 2
- Belgium: 2
- Argentina: 2
- Slovenia: 1
- Slovakia: 1
- France: 1
- Bosnia and Herzegovina: 1

Ligue 1

- Brazil: 2
- France: 1
- Uruguay: 1
- Italy: 1
- Poland: 1
- Croatia: 1
- Argentina: 1

I can extrapolate those down to 80-plus rated players, but you get the point.

Every league has a wide range of top players from different countries. The Bundesliga and Serie A have bigger chunks of national stars, but they have fewer overall stars than the Premier League or La Liga.

The Premier League just gets docked because its national team sucks by comparison.
