Klinsmann: Julian Green will not feature on CONCACAF Gold Cup roster

“He needs a break now,” Klinsmann said after a press conference in Cologne ahead of the match against Germany on Wednesday (live, 2:00p.m. ET, FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports Go). “We’ll give him a break. He goes back to Bayern Munich. Bayern will sort out where his next step will be. He keeps growing, so we leave him out of the Gold Cup and we give him a break. That’s how we manage, basically, a lot of our players who are not there yet. We manage their time. We manage their next steps. We see, OK, it’s good to bring him in. Maybe next time, it’s better to leave him out.”

Does he really need a break? Wasn't Toulon basically his first action all year? Jordan Morris is catching Red-Eye flights to catch matches for various national teams and Green needs a break?

Except during the World Cup roster selection.

If you'd played 8x as much soccer in the last two weeks as you had in the last year, you'd need a breather, too.
He needs to spend the summer finding a stable club situation where he's playing every week.

This is the first thing I thought of when I read this headline. This summer is important to him for his future.

Pretty much all he did was practice with the first team

Exactly, Bayern needs to find the right club to loan him out to to develop him as a winger. Bc the time will come if he will get to replace an old Robben

Perfectly fine. He hasn't done anything to deserve a Gold Cup spot this year. Get a good loan set up.

You see Green as a starter for bayern one day?

He has followed their youth system blue print to the T. Bayern prides themselves on youth players making the first team.
Only problem is Pep isn't as willing to give a whole rack of youth guys a chance like LvG did when he was there and that whole crew of players got thrown in the mix.
He is still young and hes got a lot to learn but its not far fetched that he can be a first team player in a few years.

Agreed on almost all points...
Pep needs to find a happy medium between acquiring his personal top-priority transfers and developing these guys from the youth squads. Guys like Højbjerg and Weiser who came up through the 2nd squad have a ton of potential, and more could be next (Tobi, Sinan Kurt, Lucas Scholl).
The hype surrounding Julian was way too high last year. The WC goal was great for him, but he needs development in Munich (or elsewhere) before he can make a huge impact.
Even though LvG's Bayern tenure gets mixed reviews...looking back, the talent that came up at that time was pretty impressive.

I'm okay with this. He'll be fine.
I just wish people would stop saying this kid suck He's what, 20? Kid has time to still become a big part of the national team and if he can find a decent club situation he'll likely be a contributor come qualifying time. He wouldn't be this hyped of it wasn't for a reason. He just needs to continue to growing and not stall out.

Anyone saying he sucks is a fool. However, he had no business being at the World Cup, and it made all of Iurgen's "prove to me that you belong talk" so hypocritical.

He sucks right now, when compared to "full" national teamers. Aside from the wondergoal against Belgium, he's often looked like he did against Turkey last year - way too small and in over his head.
It's okay that he sucks compared to other NT options - he's young and hasn't played much high level soccer.
He looked pretty good playing (roughly) in his age group at Toulon, and probably would be the star of the US team at the U-20 World Cup.
Hopefully, he can develop in a complete player.
Of course, being mediocre in your 30s can occasionally punch your ticket to the World Cup anyway.

Dang it. Why'd you have to bring that up? I'm still not over it.

I'm just glad someone finally came out and said this, after all this time.

Best thing for Green would be to have a killer pre-season and then get loaned somewhere he will actually PLAY.

Regarding the Gold Cup, which teams would you like to see make the semi's? besides US/Mexico?
