Very slim chance #USMNT is seeded. 2 wins + 5 of Colombia, Belgium, Netherlands, Croatia, Portugal, Greece to drop.

If Greece gets seeded and turns this shite into Euro 2004, I might quit watching soccer

Might as well get the lube.

We'll be in a group with Brazil, Ghana (sketchy penalty gets them though against Egypt), and the highest ranked non-seeded European side.

There are few certainties in international soccer, but the US getting F'd in the A during the World Cup draw is one of them.

Ehh, I know FIFA is shady as frick but outside of 2002 and 06, we haven't really gotten royally fricked since we started making the WC regularly back in 1990. I think it would be fair to say that it has balanced out.

What does worry me is that we got a cake draw in 2010 so we could very well get the group of death this time.

I've never understood the "weak group" rationale regarding 2010.

Our group opponents were:

- Perenially seeded England
- Slovenia, ranked 25th, who finished second place while allowing only four goals in a decent (Slovakia, Czech Republic, Northern Ireland, Poland) UEFA qualifying group, THEN beat a good Russia team home and away to qualify
- Algeria, who scored the most points in African qualifying, winning a group that included (at that time) the winner of the prior 3 African Cup of Nations, Egypt.

There's no flashy names in that group, but every team was very good, and every team could have advanced. We did very well to win that group.

People act like we were in a group with Switzerland, New Zealand and North Korea, and nothing could be further from the truth.

You mean the team that finished last in their group in Euro 2008, at home and didn't qualify for Euro 2012 and finished third in their group even after beating Spain in 2010?

No, they're an average team that got lucky.

I don't even know if there's a "very slim chance". It would seem impossible to make up 150 points in 2 matches.

1994 was a dream draw. 2010 was one of the easiest draws as well. 1998 was tough, but not ridiculous by any means, and 2002 was a decent draw as well.

The only bad draw for the US was the 2006 group of death.

As corrupt and shitty as FIFA is, and as awful as the seeding system for the World Cup is, I haven't seen any team get repeatedly screwed over in close stretches before.

Name 1 group in 2010 that was more favorable than ours.

Even the South Africa group, which had the inherent advantge of having a bullshite 1 seed, was stronger.

F and H are the only two groups that come close.

put USA football on the world scene. Nobody cared about the USA until after that WC.

It was a great showing.

LULZ, pulled up a vid of the Portugal match, Landon looks like a little Mexican, Brazilian or Portuguese.

Wow.

Seeing 20 year old Landon and Beas blazing past European defenders was the stuff wet dreams are made of.

Yes, being put in a group with (arguably) the best team in the world prior to the tournament (Colombia) and a European team with a mercurial (albeit aging) talent in Georghe Hagi, Romania. It was disappointing to not sweep that group.

You mean Germany, pre-dissolved Yugoslavia and a country that hates us (Iran) playing for the pride of their entire country? Yeah, another cake walk.
