Game on, fellow SB figs!
I hate Guatemala with a passion. They are second only to Mexico in overall CONCACAF shittiness.
The game is in San Diego, so I'm sure we'll have home field advantage.
U.S. ROSTER BY POSITION
GOALKEEPERS (3) : Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)
DEFENDERS (8) : Corey Ashe (Houston Dynamo), DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Tony Beltran (Real Salt Lake), Edgar Castillo (Club Tijuana), Clarence Goodson (San Jose Earthquakes), Oguchi Onyewu (Sporting Lisbon), Michael Orozco Fiscal (Puebla), Michael Parkhurst (FC Augsburg)
MIDFIELDERS (7) : Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Alejandro Bedoya (Helsinborg), Joe Corona (Club Tijuana), Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg), Joshua Gatt (Molde FK), Stuart Holden (Bolton), Jose Torres (Tigres)
FORWARDS (5) : Will Bruin (Houston Dynamo), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy), Herculez Gomez (Club Tijuana), Jack McInerney (Philadelphia Union), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)
GUATEMALA ROSTER BY POSITION
GOALKEEPERS (2): Victor Ayala (Malacateco), Ricardo Jerez Jr. (Alianza Petrolera)
DEFENDERS (7): Carlos Castrillo (Comunicaciones), Carlos Gallardo (Marquense), Johny Giron (Xelaju), Victor Hernandez (Heredia), Milton Leal (Xelaju), Jonathan Lopez (Marquense), Elias Vasquez (Comunicaciones)
MIDFIELDERS (7): Luis Cardona (Malacateco), Jose Manuel Contreras (Comunicaciones), Jean Marquez (Comunicaciones), Angelo Padilla (Puntarenas), Wilber Perez (Suchitepequez), Renato Sequen (Municipal), Sergio Trujillo (Municipal)
FORWARDS (4): Kevin Arriola (Xelaju), Minor Lopez (Marquense), Enrique Miranda (Heredia), Edward Santeliz (Malacateco)

These late start times are getting a little ridiculous. Only criminals are up at an ungodly hour like this

From the game notes:
frick Carlos Ruiz!

It's prime roofing/landscaping/strawberry picking time in Cali.
Gotta cater to the target audience.

I'm excited like a girl to see Landon again.
Jurgy will probably not have him in the 18.

I'll be the first guy to do it

That's a pre Gold Cup friendly right?

Rimando will be in goal.
I see Herc or Wondolowski up top to start. I think Torres and Beckerman sit behind Holden. (Or maybe Wondo plays in the hole, since that's where he's been with San Jose this year?)
Maybe Castillo at LM, Donovan at RM? Ashe at LB, Beasley at LM, Donovan at RM?
ETA: Forgot about Bedoya, who would be a better candidate for the outside mid spot than Castillo.

I don't see why they can't start earlier. If you're watching on the east coast the game ends right around 1:30. Meanwhile NBCSN is airing Tour de France coverage at 7 up until the start of the game. Nobody really gives a shite about roided up bikers. Put that on Universal Sports.

What I would like to see:
------------------Rimando----------------
-Beltran-----Gooch----parkhurst---run DMB-
------------------beckerdraids-----------------
------------Holden--------bedoya/mix-----
--LD-------------jack Mac--------herculez---
A few notes:
I think a Gooch + Goodson pairing at the back is a recipe for disaster.
Also, I don't rate Michael fricking orozco fiscal or Castillo (as a defender).
Personally, I'd rather see mix or bedoya given a shot, but I think that corona will probably be given more chances over the next few weeks as the playmaker.

Really hope we do not see Wondo or Herc. We know what they are and it is not WC quality. This is what I want to see tonight, not what I expect.
Bruin
LD. Mix. Corona
Stuie. Bedoya
Castillo. Pankhurst. Goodson. Beltran
I think this would be a good attack oriented line up with a lot of experience at CB.

World Cup or World Class? Herc is a good player and I don't see many scenarios where he isn't on our WC roster.

Are we talking about the same Herc? Herculez Gomez? He's World Cup material, man.

I would be very surprised if Herc wasn't pretty much a lock starter for most of the Gold Cup games. Frankly he should be, he's easily one of our best options available assuming he's healthy.
Also I know that was a "what I'd like to see" lineup, but I'd maybe be even more surprised if Beckerman wasn't a regular starter.
